Hey guys,

As I was replacing the faulty kingpin on my CRT, I got to thinking about something. The only place on the truck that does not have bearings are the front C hubs where the kingpin holds the steering knuckle in. Ofna uses metal bushings. Does anyone know if they make a bearing set to replace those bushings? I was wondering if Ofna put the bushing in because they don't make a bearing that small, or if the bushings are there for some other purpose? I was just wondering. I would like to replace those with bearings if it is possible. Thanks guys.

Tom

Tom, no one makes a bearing for that part of the truck that I know of.

The king pins have alot of force on em, I'm not sure how well a bearing would hold up.

Is yours not smooth? Mine is like butter even with the bushings.

Actually mine are just as smooth. I don't see the bushing being a problem. I am just sitting around here with a broken leg and lots of time on my hands, so I was looking for a place to upgrade. :) I was also looking into getting the z brace that Ofna sells to stiffen the chassis a bit more. Thanks for the info I was just curious. Hows the racing going?

Tom

Ok Tom, if you need other stuff I have some suggestions. Dace manufacturing makes a skid plate for the rear of the truck. I have one on mine and like it.

the screw that goes through the sterring top plate into the chassis brace really needs to have a counter sunk washer with a flat head screw in it so it spreads the load on the carbon fibre out. I also added the counter sunk washer/flat head screws to the screws that go through the top plate and into the sterring posts as well.

I've scene some guys break the carbon plate from chassi flex. Dace also makes a z brace as well.

I personally will probably get the king headz extended mounter mount instead of the z-brace. check out the king headz website.

I also like carolinasrc.com for CRT parts. Jon Martin is great to do buisness with. Ummm
Tinkering let's see.

The bolts that hold the brake calipers on, I ground the threads off of mine so the shoes wouldn't bind on em. Seems like ofna has a bolt that takes place of these that is actually smooth close to the head so you don't have to grind the threads off.

I also changed the way the sterring tierod connects to the knuckles and ackerman plate. doing this and dremmeling a couple places on the hubs and arms can get you alot more sterring throw. The screws use lock nuts, so you have no chance of them ever comeing out durning a race, and I have them put in such a way so they won't hit on the upper b-block and limit throw.

Send me an email and remind me to take some pictuers so I can show you what I'm talking about.

I also dremmeled my rear shock tower to allow the wing stay to flex a little more. I managed to break the one that came with the truck last saturday in practice before our club race.

Shot me an email.

Email has been sent my friend. Thank you again for all of your help and advice. Did you get a chance to check out the pics I posted of the finished build under Members Projects? Also, does you JP2 pipe bow the body out a bit? Thanks

Tom

You have mail back and I'll got look at your pics now.

My jp2 does rub on the body a bit.

I use losi's nomex tape on the body so the pipe won't melt it.

M3 screws 30mm and longer usually have a plain shank under the head. I use long A2 stainless screws for brake calipers and cut the threaded portion down to suit.

Thanks for the info my friend. What is Nomex tape? Is this something that I can get at my LHS, or is it something I have to go online for? Thanks

Tom

Nomex is largely used in fire resistant suits such as Indy racers wear. It would be a good use for what you are looking at.

The one guy at my closest track that bought a new RTR version of yoru truck did the same thing the very first day. He was a little ticked that he burnt up his body so easily.

the nomex tape is made by Losi. You can probably get it at your local shop.

Thanks guys,

I have placed the order with my LHS so hopefully it will be in before it is warm enough to fire this bad boy up.
