Hey Guys,

The weather was warmer yesterday so I figured I would take the T-4 out and run some laps. The truck was making a grinding noise... well it wasn't really a grinding noise... but it is the best I can describe it. Well it started off sounding like something was rubbing... so I removed the gear cover and ran a few more laps. It didn't get any better. There was some rubbing on the inside cover but nothing that seemed to severe. The longer I ran it the worse the sound seemed to be. It just didn't have that nice smooth hum that you hear with electric. Do you guys have any idea what it might be? I tightened the ball diff before I took it out, checked the mesh, checked the slipper (tightened it all the way and then 3/4 turn out). Could it be the bearings on the BL motor? The motor is not even a year old yet. I even checked the wheel bearings in the front. If it is the mill, it doesn't affect the speed any, the truck still flies. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Tom

I had a similar problem on my 18t. It turned out that the rear diff blew out. YOu might want to check both of them out.

You think that could be it? The diff seemed ok... but I say that being the rookie that I am.. so for whatever that is worth. :) If it is the ball diff in the rear... what is most likley blown out?

usually that sound comes from crunchy diffs OR getting a small peice of rock or large peice of sand emmbedded in the spur gear.....check all the teeth for a foreign object and pick it out with a dental pick or something....the motor could be the culprit too so check it out before running again.....dirt get EVERYWHERE......so you need to clean EVERYWHERE....

Cool... thanks for the info fishy my boy! It is a brushless motor... how in the world should I go about cleaning it? I don't want to ruin the mill at all. It is still under a bit of warantee.

Thanks for the tips guys... keep that great info comming... I only want to have this rig in pieces once... so if there is anything else I should inspect and or replace just let me know. I do go over the rig in the winter time... so I do look at everything to make sure it is in working order... So far nothing seems to be obvious.... like broken teeth or anything like that. That is what makes this so frustrating.

Do you guys typically rebuild or replace your ball diffs after a season?

Tom

I replace the balls and plates...if the outdrives aren't getting worn then re-use em...that's the most expensive part of the diff unless you use carbide balls.....I wouldn't use those in an offroad anyway, it's just too much money to crunch away with dirt.....I know the newer tranny cases are sealed better but I just can't buy them not letting ANY dirt in there, ever.....

Cool. I do not use the carbide diff balls. So I will go looking for a diff rebuild kit. Anything in the tranny I should replace? Thanks for the tips and information guys.

As always... if there is anything else just keep the info coming.

Tom

If you want, you can put some graphite lube on all the exposed parts. It's really slippery and is more like dust rather than paste. It comes out of the tube like a liquid, and FAST at that.

Thanks for the tip, I appreciate the input! I don't have graphite, but I do have Dry Ice.... can I use that?

Tom

I use Dry Ice on my 18t and it works great and doesn't seem to attract grit.

Thanks Hamz!!

I am on the phone now ordering the parts necessary for repair. Hopefully all of it is in stock.
