I have a Spektrum DXS transmitter, and I have some basic questions about how to program (bind) a new plane into it. I've some some reading and watched several videos, so I already know how to change profiles (1 - 4). But I am a bit confused about how to actually program or bind a particular plane into the transmitter.

For reference, see the attached document, and see the Preset Model Profiles on pp. 4 and 5. This is for BNF planes. I will ask my question by way of example.

Let's say I want to program/bind the Night Timber (third plane down on the list). So I change the DXS to profile 2, and then bind the plane using the bind button. Does this mean that Button A, and Switches B, D, F, and H will automatically be assigned the functions listed on that line?

Now later, let's say I want to program/bind the P39 (eighth plane down on the list) instead. (The DXS only can handle one plane at a time.) Since the DXS is already on profile 2, I don't have to change the profile. So I simply bind the P39 using the bind button. Does this now mean that Button A, and Switches B, D, F, and H will automatically be assigned the functions listed on that line -- which are different from the Night Timber?

So I don't have to do anything else afterward; is that correct? And if so, where is the "intelligence" located that enables the transmitter to know which plane it's binding to, so that the button and switches are correctly set for that plane? Is it in the plane's receiver?

Possibly more questions to follow, depending on your answer. Thanks

The DXS transitter is DSMX so the receiver has to be DSMX technology as well.
Spektrum is as easy as it gets when it comes to binding but again the receiver has to be DSMX also.
This may answer your questions. Take a look around and you can also contact them. HERE

Be careful when assigning a new plane to make sure you didn't have any preset trim settings. If all of your trim settings were neutral it should not be an issue.

Thanks all, but I already knew all that. It's a given that it will be a Spektrum receiver, and I already watched the video. My question isn't about setting a profile (1-4), but in the actual binding of the plane. What I am asking is whether simply binding a particular plane will assign the settings that are given in the chart for that particular plane.
You may want to re-read my example to get some clarity on exactly what I am asking. Sorry if it was not clear.

I have a DX6 so this is kind of confusing to me. I've never had a radio with presets. I'm used to configuring the settings and switches.

Usually when you bind an new bird, the instruction manual tells all. Its easy. Add a model, follow the instuctions, and then bind. I have a dx6 also and I have a good 6 or 7 birds programmed on it.
