RC Driving Style
I bought a Stampede 4x4 about 2 months ago. I researched as much as i could and thought it would be the best choice for me at the time. I also invested in 2 3s lipo batteries and a charger. I was able to run the stock battery 2 times through with no problems but EVERY time i run my 3s lipos i break something in 5-20 minutes of using one of the batteries. It is always a component of the drive train. I have consulted a local R/C shop that has been helpful so far and I have ordered a set of the MIP drive shafts for the rear and a gear and bearing set to upgrade to keep up with the new metal components. I am just curious if any of you or anyone you know has been having problems with this model of RC car? I don't mistreat the car by hard acceleration on solid surfaces or even any jumps ( haven't found any good places to run my RC car yet...still looking). I am just curious if i have just bought the totally wrong RC car or if i have gotten a bad egg. Any help would be appreciated guys.

P.S. I live in Baytown, which is near Houston, Tx if there is anyone on here who would like to hook up sometime and run our cars together...if i can ever keep mine up and running......

have you contacted Traxxas and if so what did they say?
i have wanted one of these but sorry to say i have been hearing more and more of the same concern about running lipos

Lipos throw down some serious power, I'm sure you can tell the difference. I would be surprised to know that Traxxas didnt build the truck to handle the power though. They have so many VXL versions of vehicles out there that i havent heard any problems about. I have a VXL Summit and it does fine other than over heating on 3s. Since you have the charger maybe try stepping down to a 2s lipo and see how it handles that. You will lose a little punch and a little speed but if it stays together and you can keep playing i wouldnt worry about it too much

I have the same vehicle and can tell you 3s is really to much for that motor. You will burn it up pretty quick. I only run 2s and it still gets really hot. I also however destroyed my rear axles and upgraded to MIP as well as the aluminum hub carriers. I have had no problems since then. You could also alleviate the problem by loosening your slipper clutch so there's not so much torque on your rear drivetrain. I can tell you once you upgrade the rear drivetrain you will love the truck. I have a revo 3.3 and my buddy has a t maxx 3.3 and both of our nitros broke and that stampede 4x4 was still running strong.

Proper gearing and slipper adjustments are the answer to these problems, to an extent. If your overheating, gear down a little(tooth or two smaller on the pinion/3-4 bigger on the spur). The slipper's a wear item, use it as such.:) Set it to slip for 2ft under full throttle take offs and your drivetrain will hold up much better. Don't worry, it'll still wheelie.:) If your running your rig in especially rough terrain or wear there's a lot of rolling resistance(grass, sand and such), upgrading to a more powerful esc/motor combo is the answer.
