RCNT Privacy Policy:

Your privacy is of the utmost importance to RCNitroTalk. RCNitroTalk attempts to minimize the personal information that members need to reveal; however, we do ask for some basic personal information when creating a message board and or ID within the RCNitroTalk Community. We want you to be fully informed of how this information is gathered and used.

Some personal information is required in order to create a message board and or ID on RCNitroTalk. This information includes your email address that allows the RCNitroTalk server to route important messages to your existing email account. Message Board notifications, RCNitroTalk newsletters, and messages sent to you all rely on the email address you provide when you signup. You have the ability to change your email address that is associated with your RCNitroTalk account at any time. RCNitroTalk will not disclose your email address to any RCNitroTalk member, or to any third party, without your permission with the exception of requests by legal authorities pending investigation of illicite activities whereby RCNitroTalk will fully co-oporate with them.

Other required information provides aggregate demographic data that we use to better understand the types of people using RCNitroTalk. This information allows us to do a better job of recommending content that may be of interest to you on RCNitroTalk, and to show you advertisements that are relevant to your age and geographic location. Similar to television, radio, and magazines, RCNitroTalk relies primarily on revenue from advertising to subsidize the cost of providing you with free services. To help enhance the relevance and effectiveness of ads, RCNitroTalk provides advertisers demographic information on an aggregate basis (not linked to your personal name or email address). For example, RCNitroTalk will report to advertisers that "45% of members are female and the average age is 28."

The above describes information that is provided "actively" - meaning, you choose to submit this information to us when you join RCNitroTalk, or update your account at any point after having joined. Some other information is provided "passively" - meaning, that RCNitroTalk obtains this information when you login to your RCNitroTalk account and use the service. This is done primarily through the use of "cookies". Cookies are used on RCNitroTalk to verify your login information, and to optionally store your password in your browser so that you do not need to type it in each time you visit RCNitroTalk. Any time that you point your browser to a 'members-only' area, RCNitroTalk checks your browser's cookie file to see if you have already logged in, and if you have, you're taken right to the page that you have requested. If not, you'll be directed to the RCNitroTalk login screen, where you can quickly and easily login to your account, or signup for a RCNitroTalk account if you are not yet a member. Cookies are also used in conjunction with some ad banners to determine their effectiveness.

When a user posts on RCNitroTalk, that user's IP (Internet Protocol) address number is collected by our software. Users with administrative powers on each RCNitroTalk are given the option of using our "Display Poster IP" feature, which causes the Internet Protocol (IP) address, from which the information was sent, to appear under the posting user's name in each post. RCNitroTalk does not routinely review this information. However, RCNitroTalk will observe and track user IPs when investigating complaints that a user has violated our Terms of Use or committed an illegal act through the use of our service.

RCNitroTalk does not routinely terminate user accounts, If you decide to leave or are removed from RCNitroTalk for whatever reason, all of your prior submissions and contributions to the community remain the content and property of this community. The exception is when your contributions are hosted on your own server, in which case you are free to do what you want with it. RCNitroTalk is an ongoing work in progress and even if you and RCNitroTalk eventually grow apart, we want to maintain a true history of the building of RCNitroTalk, and everything that once was, will always be.

In this electronic era, when personal information can easily be obtained through various sources, RCNitroTalk appreciates the sensitivity of any private information that you disclose to us. It is our intention to treat your account information with the highest level of care. If you have further questions about our practices and policies with regard to how your account information is treated, please contact us at any time.

If you're receiving pop-ups from anywhere I would recommend the following programs be installed, updated then ran.

- Ad-aware SE (www.lavasoftusa.com)
- Spy-Bot Search and Destroy (www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)
- Spysweeper (www.webroot.com) - trial version.

Along with the above I'd highly recommend everyone to purcahse an anti-virus software package such as Panda, Kaspersky, or Norton anti-virus and make sure you allow them to auto update and even scan your computer each night.

After you are sure the computer is clean then run Microsoft updates starting with Service pack 2 if you're using Windows XP or Service pack 4 if you're using Windows 2000. Service Pack 2 for Windows XP does have a pop-up stopper built in now however if you really wanna make sure you don't get pop-up's a company called www.Panicware.com has some very nice pop-up stoppers - in fact I use the Pop-Up Stopper Companion Toolbar by panicware and love it and can't remember the last time I've gotten a pop-up ad since.

Hope this helps!

Not disputing Woodie's preference in any way but Zone Alarm Pro has a great pop-up blocker which had I not needed a firewall I would never have known about. I do not, however, believe their free version allows you to use their pop-up blocker. You can also, like I do, manually block certain ads that you keep getting providing that you know their URL. Zone Alarm is also now employing a spyware checker but it lacks the thoroughness of Ad-Aware from Lavasoft Corp. Currently all my computers use Zone Alarm Pro and Ad Aware as a result I get extremely few pop-ups and most spyware is blocked as well.

Woodie, what's destory? Is it like the opposite of telling a story? :D

Spybot - Search and Destroy

Kind of like:

Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back

One thing. not 2

nope, no pops ups here. WoodiE has not mentioned it to staff and I know he would not do such a thing. Go get Spybot, and Adaware for free @ www.download.com. Then if you are running Windows XP please go to Windows Updates and obtain and install Service Pack 2 or SP2. It has a pop-up blocker and will stop it for all sites. You can chose to allow it for the sites you want and ones you don't.

Yepp....those 2 work great...

Its amazing how many of those little bugs you get in a week or 2. I get aobut 50 per week, even with Spyweeper on full auto.

You'll also find that you'll get a lot less spyware and pop-ups if you stop using MS products - for starters stop using Internet Explorer and start using Mozilla Firefox, this alone will help out a bunch. Another way to rid yourself of the MS nightmares is to use Linux, but that's a whole other thread.

I downloaded Mozilla Firefox to give it a try. To me its way better than Internet Explorer. Theres far less pop ups...it runs smoother....and pages download faster.

Try it... download it and u can make a shortcut to Firefox on ur desktop. If you dont like it u can alwys open IE instead.

You can get it here:

If you are looking for an alternative web browser Opera gets my vote. I use it about 30% of the time.

Spybot rocks.. My neighbor called me into his office (he runs a cabulance type of company) His network went down.. while I was there I guess my presence sparked a conversation.

One lady was talking about how her husband must be looking at nasty sites because of the pop-ups.. she had to lock the door to the computer room because the pop ups made it unsafe for her kids and embarrassing for her firends to see. Well...after about 5 minutes the entire office was in on the discussion, seems every single worker in that office had the problem..I showed them all how to fix it..
It's really hard to explain to anyone how you can get a prOn pop-up without ever going to a site..

Anyhow spy-bot rocks..and it's updated constantly.. thanks for the link to firefox.. it's going to be my only browser now..

I think a guy could make a small fortune putting an add in the paper advertising to fix this problem for $45 a flat rate.. I know that 90% of my computer calls are now pop-ups or add ware removal..

Anyhow back to the point.. No one is safe and at one timwe I myself thought Ebay had added pop-ups to their site.. seems like it really does happen to everyone.

Thanks for the links Woodie! I have the Adware one now and it works good, But I'm gettin the spysweeper one now too.. Does anyone know of one that blocks it BEFORE it gets to your comp? It sucks having to do it all the time. I get anywhere from 20-40 a DAY!!! But I use the comp alot for work and stuff so I'm on it alot, but still that seems liek alot though... O well, long as it keeps on keepin on..lol.. Thanks agin though Woodie!

I dont get ANY popups. Although Msn's service REALLY blows, the conection is crappy, the customer service is ran by the taliban, and there rates are crazy, but one thing they do have, is a good pop up blocker.

ok i had this spywear called180 Search Assistant. It is really annoying spywear. More annoying then me. if you guys google it you will see how hard it is to remove. also you'll find out people are trying to sue the compony.

Spyware Blaster is the blocker. Currently 3,356 items in the data base that it will block automatically. Just like virus protection, it needs to be updated regularly for new definitions. It's a free download.
I use that one, along with Ad-Aware SE personal, Spyware Doctor and SpyBot Search and Destroy.
Those 4, along with Norton and a firewall, and I never see a pop up, or have a virus get to my computer.

not sure if anyone brought it up but there is a program called spywareblaster.. it stops the junk befor they get on your computer.. also the imunize funtion of spybot does the same thing but spywareblaster is more powerfull.. also I've been useing the microsoft antispyware.. at first i was like "microsoft" and "antispyware" yea right.. but it seems to work nicely it runs all the time and watched for changes.. like the spybot teatimer does.. the new nortons (04 and 05) find some spyware.. the ones i use are ad-aware, spybot, spywareblaster, microsoft antispyware, and norton internet security.. no popups.. no viruses.. and i use this computer at work and hook up some nasty hard drives to it.. oh and we have a flat rate "cleanup" at my store for $49.95 and i get about 10 to 15 a week.. on slow weeks.. so yea ***-ware is worse then viruses right now.. if your haveing computer problems chances are its ***-ware (spy, mal, ad whatever-ware... if anyone is haveing problems you can pm me.. i do this for a living every day.. i can help.. (changes name to resident tech) the least i can do for such a great forum!!

I run all kinds of programs to stop spyware....like 5-7 I've been getting rid of a few. I used to have over 2k programs on my comp. I cleaned it then rebooted it. I hate wares soooooo bad....There is a program that is supposed to "help" spyware blatser...But it doesn't there is an error that will keep coming up and constantly freeze your comp..I would not recommend getting it.
