t-maxx bolts

I'm getting ready to order some wrenches today since I can't find any high quality hex wrenches in town. I'm wondering, does the T-Maxx use metric or SAE hex wrenches? To the best of my ability, I used a cheap set of wrenches to get sizes and they appear to be metric, but as I said they're cheap wrenches and I'd rather know for sure. I would love any suggestions on what wrenches to get and where to get a good deal, good customer service, etc...

My T-maxx came with phillips screws, which are all gone now in favor of hex head screws. But you will want to get a metric set. I have used ofna, dynamite, and integy. The ofnas are my favorite out of the three plus if you ever strip or break a tip just send it back to them with $3 for shipping and they will send you a new tip, no questions asked. The dynamites are a nice set too. Stay far away from the integy drivers, the handles are nice but the tips are total crap!

Does anyone know of a screwdriver set that will hold up under at least a small bit of pressure and will not twist, curl, grind, strip out, etc... which then causes premature screw failure. If my mind was in the gutter, the last three words of the last sentence could be a lil funny, any, back to the subject at hand. I've tried many brands and quality grades and still haven't found any that I really trust, so if you guy know of some that really hold up like they are supposed to I would love to know about them. Please help, I'm already having screw heads going bad and the truck is only a month old and has only been taken apart twice!

Cheap good set-Dynamite Red Handles. These have a nice handle that fit my palm well. Tips are pretty durable and replacements are cheap and easy to find, though I've only had to swap out one tip in a little over 3 years.

Expensive good set-Hudy. I really like the length of the tips, nice and long. Tips are very well machined and hollow handles are light. I had to replace one tip prematurely from using inferior screws.

I take the Dynamites when I travel amd leave the Hudys for the home shop.

Alright thanks for the help, I'm going to start looking for some now. I will be glad to get them, but I also need a few GOOD screwdrivers really bad. Do those companies offer any phillips screwdrivers or just hexes? Also, is there a screw and bolt set that you would reccomend for the T-Maxx, I would love to order the complete set and have some extras, I lost 3 days of bashing time because I lost a lug nut for the wheel and I don't have a spare.

yea I found a inventory that SDMAXX posted a long time ago with a list of every screw on the T-Maxx, so I'm thinking about starting to order them from mcmaster.com. I would like to order a full set from fasteddy though I think, and I like supporting fellow members and enthusiasts.

I bought a Duratrax driver set from my LHS for 20 bucks. So far I've had a great experience with them, although the handles could be a little bigger (don't provide enough torque on those all too important engine mount screws).

It comes with 2 flat head, 2 phillips, 3 different sizes of ball-head allen drivers, and 3 sizes of hex drivers (like bolt and nut hex not allen head).

Yea I was looking at the Duratrax because of the price, are they holding up good? Something I forgot to ask about was the ball ends. Do they work better or are they even needed?

Ball ends are nice to have as a luxury, but I use the regular tips 98.7% of the time. Cheap ball end tips tend to snap their heads off, so if you do pick a set up, make sure they are high quality, and only use them in low torque applications.

Yes, they are holding up great. About the only problem I have is the occasional screw that isn't quite deep enough for the ball head to work, in which case I just pull out my big all-in-one that has like 10 sizes of allen wrenches on it.

Believe it or not you can get some good sets at Harbor Frieght. I got some good drivers with harden tips cheap. Just mt .20

I was wondering if they would have any good ones. I didn't know they had hardened tips, but I will check them out. Thanks monzaman

If you go to Lowe's and get the Kobalt brand, they are guaranteed for life. I got a lot of their small tools a while back, and I'm very impressed by them.

I have a Kolbalt tool box and it has better metal than craftsman and ball bearing drawers like the high end Snap-on for 1/3 the price.....I am happy with it

I've been using the same losi drivers for about 7 years... I frequently take the driver shaft out and put it in my drill on my 2mm and 2.5mm. The handles go from small to larger as the size of the bit goes up.

If you have a t-maxx, you won't have a need for the pink one. If you have a savage or 1/8 buggy, you will. It's 3mm I think.

They have been good wrenches. The only thing I didn't like about them is that the set screw that holds the bit in the handle is soft and strips easily. Since I take mine out so frequently, I replaced the set screws on the 2mm wrench with a 2.5mm cap head and on the 2.5mm wrench, I use a 2mm button head. So I use one wrench to take the other apart.

I recently bought a long hudy wrench when I got my aftershock. Mostly so I could reach through my roll bar to take the engine out. Plus, it was standard vs metric. It's all metric now... The hudy wrench tip/shaft is nice though. However, the handle is a bit small for my bear paws.

As for ball ends, regardless if they are good wrenches or not, any time I use them and put much pressure on them, they strip the screw. So, I don't use them except to install an engine.

what are ball end tips....I'm not familiar with that...i do quite a bit of work on cars, and i have never heard of them...
