Another newbie question... A simple yet informative question although.. Does the piston and sleeve have to be made from the same company the engine is from. say if you have a .21 engine will any .21 piston and sleeve fit, or if you have a .15 will any new .15 fit? and so on......Thanks.

I would think no because some engines are rear exhaust and some are side exhaust also most companies make their ports into different shapes. You might get lucky and find one P&S set that fits another engine but I would think that it is unlikely.

ADDAndy is absolutely correct in one respect, you can not just slap any .21 piston and sleeve into any engine. Now, there are companies that have parts commonality. That means they either manufacture piston and sleeve assemblies for other companies' engines (For example, Sirio has a piston and sleeve upgrade for the TRAXXAS 2.5 engine) or their parts are actually direct drop in replacements (I can't think of any off the top, but I am certain there are a couple out there.)

The issue has to do with how different manufacturers port their engines and have the timing set up. You would think that they would be all the same or damn close, but the opposite is the case.

You are going to want to get in touch with RB Concepts or shop around. If that is the Europa version of the engine, you are going to want RB Concepts to give you a pointer as far as finding the replacement parts. Why? I do not believe they are still making those engines...they have moved on to a S7 II.

I wish I could give you a decent link to where you could pick up a replacement piston and sleeve, but the RB site is experiencing some difficulty.

Unfortunately, Unlimited Engineering does not list the replacement parts for the RB engines under their extensive listing of RB Concepts items.

most of them will have diffrent port timing, stroke, sleeve size, etc. you could get lucky and find a exact match but you'll probably be wasting your time, just hunt down the correct one you need for your application aloha

Jer ry I got parts for my ws7 11 at ashford hobbies and they are great to deal with, if you call them they are very helpful. Give them a try, and hope this helps.

so i'm not to familiar with that engine i mentioned earlier i got it used..is it worth buying a new piston and sleeve or should i just buy a new .21 engine i can get a diffrent one for about $85

The RB Concepts S7 engine is a great entry level engine by that manufacturer. I won't knock it, but I would say that you might be able to get a brand new engine for the price of the rebuild you need to do on it.

On the flip side, once rebuilt that engine would probably out perform most low cost .21 engines on the market today.

Yeah, Sky is right... you will probibly end up right in the ballpark of the price of a new entry level engine, but at the same time, the money is well spent on that engine in my opinion. They are easy to tune, hold a tune well, and are true performers... you will have a better motor than just about any other entry level engine out there... you won't be dissapointed.

I have this motor in my Mugen MBX-4 XR Works, and lemme tell you, this motor shits and gets!! Take the piston and sleeve out, and have it pinched. Do a search for it on this board, a guy on ebay, osrocket I think is his name, is a guy who I'm told does awesome work. It will be the best $15 you ever spent.

The motor shits and gets? That's hilarious, never heard that one before. So you are suggesting him rebuilding the engine, but to have the sleve pinched first? What does that do... better compression or something?

For the record, I was not bashing the RB engine in any way. I have an RB S7 Europa on my MBX-5 and yes, it "shits and gets." BUT that engine is not the top of their line.

As for pinching the sleeve, that basically reduces the bore of the sleeve to return the seal of the piston and sleeve. End result is better compression and a new life to old internals. I have not done this personally, but have heard a variety of good things about it.

Well masterbeavis i got a mugen mbx 4 also coincidentally thats what this engine is on. I just got the whole thing it dosent have a radio system YET and i havent cranked over the engine yet due to the lack of a starter box..some of you prolly remember the thread i had wanting to know what was a good starter box lol.....yes...it's all coming clear now...it's all connected!! Ya'll are probably thinking to your selves hmm he is probably going to have a thread about "what is a good radio system" lol not i have my mind made up on that one...but i am going to ask this, what i hope to be, final question on this car...why is there a dang rechargable looking battery on the mugen what does it do and if you ever have to recharge it.....how!?

The rechargeable battery on the buggy is for the receiver and servos. They need their power to run.

As for recharging it, that depends on the type of rechargeable battery and its connector. You simply get the appropriate charger and go.

Grade A confused...So not only would i need recharger but now i have to find a reciever that has the same connection that the big battery has? what if i take out the battery and buy a full radio system that has the battery box for the 4AA batteries??

Sky took the words right out of my mouth... it's to power your radio... it isn't like a car engine that has an altenator... and even if it did, it would still need a battery initially. Anyway, go to your LHS and get yourself a charger for it... just take the pack up, it shouldn't be too expensive... they are like 15-20 bucks.

You can do that, but I would recommend sticking with the rechargeable. It will provide decent power and is re-usable.

Either way, you can't lose.

As for finding a receiver that will take the battery you have, you can buy adapter cables if the receiver that comes with your radio does not handle the plug currently on the battery.
