hey guys, just went out about 1 hour again to see hwo teh beast would run. well i was going and it wouldnt shift. so i came back in a thought it was the clutch shoes. took them out and replaced them. that did work. so now i am wondering if it is the 2 speed thing in the tranny that might be gone. taking into consideration i havent changed it in about 4 years!

You might just have to readjust the shift point of the Tranny is all

1) Have you changed gearing? And what is in it now?
2) Have you changed fuel?
3) Have you changed the engine? If not how old is it?
4) Has the weather changed ( temp gone up or down ) ?

is that the tranny youve been running that cvd twisting/breaking XTM 24.7 for about a gallon on? on top of that four years?? haha id be happy it lasted that long....tear it down and see what damage you got..if any (most likely not) and start plannin on tranny upgrades...BTW is OTB still in business anyone know? I've heard they make the best tranny gears, and they make the only aluminum 2-speed unit gears i know of.

hunter- i havent changed the gear nor gas, nor engine for a while. the temp has gone down drastically but i know it isnt that. it goes good until it gets ready to ship but just reves up. i am 99.9% positive that it is my 2 speed thing.

alkyula- have been running the beast for about 1 1/2 gallons and havent done anything too it. but i think it is the 2 speed module that i am going to have to take apart and get a new one!

Let me get this straight:

You can take off and it goes well, but when it should be shifting into 2nd it just revs up? Does it slow down as it revs, or is it still moving well and maintains its speed?

Also OTB is not out of business, I am just not doing R/C stuff anymore. That was a side for OTB not the main business.

Yes, I have the only alloy 2 speed set, and no, as of now they are no longer for sale. I have 275 more combos in stock and am holding them to see if I will have a failure. I want to cover my lifetime warranty. If no failures I will put them up for sale.

That's good business man, good business. You are the Fort Knox of OTB gears LOL.

alright update. i am at my grandpas house right now. they live on a farm. my first gear works really good. but like i said right before it shifts it just revs and its like it is not catchin the gear or something. if i want it to shift i have to go slow.

Ok, your problem is your primary shaft that holds the two speed cluster is worn out.

If you take off in 1st and if there was a problem with second it would still move in first. The oneway MUST engage and stay engaged for 2nd speed to work. It is the momentum of the shaft in first that makes the 2nd speed clutch engage.

So as you are taking off, the clutch for second is engaging, this puts side stress on the oneway and since the shaft is worn out it just starts slipping, which in turn slows the primary shaft down and the 2nd speed clutch dis-engages starting the whole process over.

Hope this helps.

Change your primary shaft and you will be good to go.
