Just built this R40 and installed a Picco XP12, the problem i an having is that if the motor gets hydrolocked the starter box spins the flywheel loose, i have tried 3 times to retighten and still the same problem, any suggestions? and is it ok to thread lock the nut/collar that holds the flywheel in place to the shaft?

Thanks Kwong for the reply, i am serious i tightened this nut with two hands and it still spun off, do you think its ok to use locktight?if you mean the tool that holds the piston in place i used a flathead screwdrive to hold the shaft threw the carb oulet.

Well if you used a screwdrive, your crankshaft is gonna be damaged. Only thing I can really tell you is to tight the clutch nut down a lot.

When I installed my novarossi, I had to tighten it way past when it felt tight all the way.

Locktite will only work if the clutch nut is backing out, and it probably is if you didn't tighten it enough.

thanks for the help, i will give it another shot hope it works, i am gonna use the locktite also for a little extra help.

maybe you have the start box spinning the wrong way or maybe its reveresed? I donno but try those

I checked that Damon, but trust me it did cross my mind thanks.

I had a problem like that with my gt one time. but i forgot what i did to fix it. did you bring it to a hobby shop and let them mess with it?

Is your split cone in good shape? That's the thing that's actually holding the flywheel to the shaft. The flywheel nut is just compressing that split cone between the flywheel and the shaft.

I tighened the hell out of it last night and added the locktite and got it running today for a little while, seemed to work ok, but it started to rain, still breaking in the new motor, really would like to know why they don't make that nut a reverse thread then it would never loosen since the motor spins counter clock wise.
That would be to easy right......
Thanks for the replies guys

No, Shady... CCW-turning engines would be more likely to loosen a flywheel nut with left-hand threads.

You know wdavid ........your right ...... i guess i was just gettin brain fried with this damn problem, either way they should still get a better system going.....:stupid:
