Hi all,
If I cannot get my 5.9 sorted with a new carb, I'm going to rip out the engine and put in a 28 Picco JL Team Turbo.

Can you tell me if this is the best engine for the large XL?
Is there something better out there that will do better?
What other choices do I have?

Thanks all in advance.
:D

I don't think that will work since it is a bump-start engine. You will need and engine that is pull-start or Rotostart for the Savage. I would suggest the Picco P3 .28 or the LRP ZR.30 Spec 2 Another good one is the Associated LRP Z.28R Spec 3 w/Pull Start . Those engines are the best bang for you buck that I know of. I have had 3 of the LPR .28s and one of the .30s and they are very strong and easy to tune. I Have heard the Picco has a little more power and a bit longer life. For the price....all a great engines for a Savage.

I have an LRP28S3 in my 1" extended savage with a three speed and it throws that rig around like a rag doll. I've found that the LRP engines like a bit more restrictive pipe than the HPI pipes though. So keep that in mind.

I have a brand new picco 28 sitting on a shelf as well... couldn't pass up the deal. Probably won't use the thing for years... but it's nice to know I got a good engine as a backup. ;)

Engines for xl

The picco .28 would be a excellent mill for you xl

The picco 28 jl wont work because it is setup to be bump started on the only way to get it to work is to change out the crankshaft but the p3 .28 is the best mill for under 200 if you want better go look for a rb.28or a nova rossi .28 but they gonna run about a 100 more and you must make sure its either a roto start or pull start
