are they like irridescent sharks?
if so I had some of those w/ the oscars and they were mean......I don't know what killed em but I did have a one eyed oscar from them

Plaid, no, they are silvery white on the sides and have black tips on the tail, fins, etc. They somewhat are shark shaped, but the nose is like a regular fish, not flat across like a shark. They are passive. Some shops call them black tip sharks, too.

All this talk abotu fish and it makes me want to go out and set up a cool FW tank. I had alot of petrified wood and live plants in mine. Mine looked like you were under water in a pond and looking at the fish.

Do the bala sharks like to be in groups? I'm just thinking about these, because they get somewhat big... I dont want little fish because of the eatable factor...

Find trees that are dead...3" trunks or smaller....uproot the sucker and check out the complex root structure....chop it off (leave only the thickest roots) and let it dry you have some really cool looking wood...I used them for reptile tanks but if it's dried enough I'm sure you can put em in FW tanks too....Sun curing them after a good long soak is good too.....Revo that sounds like irridescent sharks too....U sure that's not another name for the same fish??

rc10, when I had some, I think I only had one and it was pretty hardy. Fish naturally prefer to be in broups, but some do ok solo. If it is big enough when you get it, one is ok.

Plaid, it might be, but the color I am thinking of is more silver than irridescent.

Here is a link to what I am thinking of:

They grow pretty big. The red tail sharks stay small.

As to Plecs, here is a page of plecs. I do not see what I had, but it might be the starry night one.

that looks like the bugger....I was told they were not agressive so I got 3 and I had 2 Oscars at the time....they just fought constantly until the Oscars won.....after a few months they sort of had territory in the tank since it was so long....pretty funny to watch the show when they looked like they'd stand off in the middle...I used to play that gangster song from West Side Story w/ the sharks and Jets....Of course it was more comical when in the right frame of mind....

I've found that normally passive fish become aggressive when they live in fear. Then they either get killed from what they fear or beat on what they fear until both are sick and die.
