Well I just baught the truck I've been wanting forever, I got it saturday, but got home late so I didn't do anything w/ it till Sun. I spent about an hour and a half breaking it in then finally opened it full throttle for fun, well bad Idea:wtf: it jump sideways a bit and hit the back wheel of a car snapped the front bulkhead and skidplate to pieces and also bent shocks. So I finally got the parts to fix it and went out to run it and made my passes to warm it up and tuned the carb, but I can't seem to get the power out of it that it should have. I've leaned it plenty. but all I can seem to get is overheating. any help?

P.S. Does runnin it w/out the body make a difference in cooling?

have you broken it in yet or did you just go and use it right out of the box?? and did you use ARO when you shut it down

Also do you have a temp gun if so what are you running at??

This could be caused by any number of things. You are going to have to narrow the field for us, just a bit. When you say that it is overheating, how are you determining this? The lack of power, what are the symptoms? How is the engine acting?

Did you have to move the engine at all when you replaced the damaged parts?

As for your post script, the answer is YES. Running without the body gives the engine all the cooling air it would ever want. It should run a bit cooler.

Something maybe you didn't know. If your body/lid does not have a hole in the front or the windsheild, The motor might not be getting enough air to cool itself properly.

Some R/C's dont have cut outs from the factory. I had a round hole in the front windshield of my XTM, it just wasn't enough air. I cut the windsheild out in a X patern to keep the strength and open up air flow, now it's plenty cool.

I ventilated my first shell with a dremmel tool. The second shell I ventilated by violently landing it on the lid a fiew times. Stress fractures in the shell provide nice air flow.
:D

Could you have possibly leaned it a bit too much causing the engine to starve for fuel? Go back to stock settings and try again to make sure.

sorry this is my first post, so I'll try and be a little more specific. well as for how the engine acts it just seems weak, for ex if I was to put my my ST Pro and it side by side the ST would kill it. I lean the carb and it seems to get better but then the temp starts to go up. I have a Venom on board temp gauge and it starts to get around 280-290 so I quit and richen the needle I don't know maybe I'm just to overly caucious but I try and take good care of my cars. and yes I use ARO

this is all w/ the body off.
and I'm runnin Traxxas Top Fuel 10%

Up the fuel to 20%. This will allow you to run it richer and help not sacrificing performance to do so.

I had issues with my 2.5 as well. Same kind of thing. I eventually converted to a 21. I waited a whole 2 weeks before I tried a different engine. An OS 15 cv-r(x). Not enough power to not overheat in a maxx though. I toughed it out for another month and decided to go 21 and save the OS for my ST.

Good suggestion on the fuel, and yes, Blue Thunder is a good fuel.

Wow...I have only had cooler running engines while using Blue Thunder.

As for the engine life question, you actually decrease the engine life by running the 10% nitro vice the 20 that most engines are designed to be run with.

I remember you saying that before. That's why I tried it. Not saying it wasn't a tuning issue, but I did knock about 20 degrees off with the trinity fuel vs the smurf juice.

Anything is possible. Fuels do change over time. The competition drives the manufacturers to make better fuels. IME the Monster HP fuel has a bad reputation for killing engines...but I haven't personally witnessed it.

thanks for the help I'll try the blue thunder
on another note what is the best after market head for the 2.5 any suggestions

I got a Mutant head and it runs pretty awesome!. I have been thinking of getting a Nova Head for the maxx and my MGT.
