I just picked my 323 today and will be installing it tonight and doing the break-in process tomorrow

Now....

What is the best way to break in this motor?

What is the best gearing for this motor?

Has this motor been hard on your trannies?

Thanks!

TW

1. Use Traxxas method (that's what they recommend)

2. No change needed unless you find yourself doing wheelies a lot. On dirt it might not wheelie as much.

3. No

Whether you use the traxxas method or some other method the thing to remember is that these are all "heat cycling" methods with slight variatons on how long and how much.

The key to the tm323 is to pre-lube the piston/sleeve with a little after run oil and heat the head with a hairdryer prior to starting the engine for the first tank.

The fit can be quite tight and cranking an engine with a dry sleeve will cause premature wear. Apart from that any recognised heat cycling method will work.

Most popular choice for gearing is the 16/36. The stock gearing transfers to much of the bottom end and results in uncontrollable wheelies. This can be countered with soft suspension and lossening the slipper clutch. I'm about to trial 15/36 with wide ratio.

Get the forward only conversion. Too much torque for the stock reverse gears. Also helps with load transfer to diffs.

In 8 months of hard running (race and bash), the tm323 has never caused any issues with tranny or diff. Busted a couple of spurs but these were a result of user error.

Revo Rancher,

Racing with the 16/36, wide ratio, tight slipper.

My track is extremely twisty with a very long back straight so I was after maximum top end and keeping the turns tight.

For bashing I have a entirely separate tranny which is 16/38, close ratio, average slipper.

I've never liked the 15t bells on the tm323 as they seem to apply too much bottom end and I seem to spend too much energy focusing on throttle control too keep the front end down.

Going to test the 15/36, wide ratio on this track but not sure how it will go.

What Fuel are you guys using in your TM 323's

What fuel do you guys use in your TM 323's what does it like?

i'm currently using 20% Blue thunder in my 2.5 but its a little hard to get hold of in my area

so i might change when my TM 323 arrives

Hi all

got my 323 yeaterday and fitted it last night and went out today with my revo.. first impressions was how easy it was to start from new and how it just idled so well straight out of the box.. ran mine is the Traxxas way and partially the way that is described in the motor installation... very rich almost choking the motor, so it had good lubrication... 5 tank fulls later.... tweaked the motor back for performance.. mental power... I already had a forward only conversion installed and the standard gearing supplied with the truck.

I use Model-Technics 20% nitro as its a good allround fuel and well priced

Good job I fitted a twin disc setup on the truck anyway coz it goes like hell, can't see any point in changing much at this time,,, other than making sure that the tyres are well glued up as it nearly rips them of under accelaration

I'm well pleased with the engine and now pleased that I went for this one and not the Picco P2 .26

Well now that I finnaly got off my lazy butt and looked up the TM323, I finnaly know what it is lol Anyways, after reading up on it, that package seems like a really good deal. You get the whole set up from motor to pipe for around 239.00 US. You even get to use the factory EZ start if you choose. I've been thinking of doing the OS .18 my self, but may swap in one of those babys. Now if I get a really good deal on an OS .18, I'll go that route for sure.

I think you will find that RB supports Model Technics fuel for their engine... my mate ran Blue thunder and had nothing but trouble with it... left a residue in the crankcase and gummed up the bearings... bought my Rb .23 from Apex models online.. (5% discount) you see.. cost me £161 and change delivered...

cheers for the info have you got a link that talks about them (RB) supporting model technics?? ....

i think apex sounds like the cheapest price I'm still gonna get it from dms though since I'm in the area on wedensday and can pop in and buy 1st hand think they want £165.

I'm on my 5th tank on this engine myself. All is going well except that my temps are going up the more fuel I go through (leaning problem perhaps). My temps have gotten all the way up to 270/280. I am running it rich enough so that I get a nice trial of smoke when I first take off. The smoke goes away after I get going, though. Which one do I need to adjust to keep the blue smoke going? Anybody here experiencing similar issues?

Thanks,

M/J

Ray:

I can get you the RB before tax and shipping for 219.00.

Salmon, someone else in the UK on this forum found it for 129.00. Do a search.

ok cheers i'll have another look but can you remeber if that price was with the pipe and manifold becasue it is £129 in the same shop without. but i was getting th whole kit for £165

i use model technics but not in the rb engine.

i use 25% duraglo in the 2.5r and it runs really well, but can be a bit messy from the exhaust.

thats all my lhs stocks.

In the USA we only get it as a total kit, with pipe, for 119.00 USD. I'll look for that other thread.

On edit, Salmon, it was your own thread, but I did not realize you were talking about only the engine for 129.00 quid.

oh yeah i wasn't that clear in that thread :opps:

ok revo rancher i have spent hours reading different threads about the os18 and the tm323 and basically the tm323 sounds like the one for me however every once in a while somone commenst on it having too much power and can barely control becasue it keeps doing wheelies...now is this just down to bad driving on thier part or is the thing that much of beast....the odd wheelie is fine but i'd like to have some controled straight running from time to time...can you clear this up for me and maybe write your set up cheers
