Well I've noticed that one of the stampedes flaws is the axels. I've blown 2 of them in 20 mins. So it looks like I will be asking Santa for some nice shiny aluminum hopups for christmas. These are the only parts I've broken besides shock caps pulling.

I've only broke one on my Rusty, and that was from a silly-hard crash. The inside joint just popped apart. I figured it was probably weakened, so I stole one off of the nitro rusty I got from you. I noticed the shafts on the nitro were a little bit thicker. The pins on the metal part of the joint are actually a little longer, but the ball is the same size. I had to put the outdrive part of the joint from the vxl shafts(part that goes on the tranny) on the nitro shafts, and they fit perfect, with a little bit of the pins sticking through the ears on the shaft. Which should be stouter than the way it comes from the factory. It looks like the shaft would actually have to break to come apart at the joint. The stub shafts are the same length and diameter, but again, the plastic part of it looks thicker. I've read that the 4x4 Slash/Pede axles are an upgrade for the 4x2's as well.

I might have had my slipper to tight. I backed it off a tad and we will see what happens. I'm looking for some cheap cvd's. I might try some 4x4 rears.

I'm going to assume this on a Pede VXL? I never had any issues with the stock plastic slider shafts, even on 3S lipos, and I beat on the Pede relentlessly. I did however have a really tough time keeping the front end down when it was stock. :D

Fast Lane Machine makes a really nice set of heavy duty CVD drives, been running mine for about 8 months now.

yeah its a vxl stock chassis. it was a xl5 bought from godale. i'm going to replace the axle carriers with aluminum and see if that cleans up some of my slop in the rear.

hpiguy i drooled all over my keyboard following your build. i will be extending mine on the cheap with a rear shock tower cut down and some screws. it looks like it will work ok.

I actually left the carriers plastic on mine, RPM to be exact. Here was my thought process behind the decision; you can't really see them since the wheels hide them and they're a cheap break away part in a big hit instead of bending an A arm. That's just my opinion though, I did however shim the carriers in the arms to reduce slop.

Why thank you sir. It was something I had always wanted to do for years, and finally just bit the bullet and did it. I can honestly say after beating on it like nothing I've owned for almost a year, I'm still happy with the results. I actually need to dig up the thread, I've added a couple new things recently and am pretty much finished with it now. I'm a big fan of doing things on the cheap too, I'm still chopping up an old un painted body for tie rods on the my Micro T. :D I think you'll be surprised at just how much difference extending it will make. Mine was almost uncontrollable on 3s packs, while wheelies are fun, they're not fun when it happens when you DON'T want it to at 40 mph +. You can also widen it on the cheap too, to balance it out after extending it. Here's a how to:

Thanks for the link. It helps having 1.5 spare pedes for donor trucks. It looks like it will only cost $25 to do both mods. Just need some 2.8 front rims and I'm set. I'll see what my lhs has tomorrow.

i bought some rpm axle carriers and new bearings so. this should really help and i shimmed out all of the excess play.

Nice!! I think you'll be very happy with them. I would have bet you I'd have broken one by now, but nope, no dice.
