One thing that really bothers me when I paint a body for someone is when they open it up and take out the decals and/or the window masks. WTF?!?! You really need those masks? for what?!? The masks are not as big a deal as the decals though. I consider my paintjobs artwork, so to not let me finish MY work by applying the headlights, grille, tail lights, window trim, etc. is like telling Leonardo Davinci dont bother painting the smile on the Mona Lisa, I'll do that later, or telling Michelangelo don't worry about the clouds on the Sistine Chapel, we'll paint those on later, or hell, even telling John Wayne Gacy not to bother putting the nose on the clown, you will do it yourself. Cmon, if you ask me to paint your lid, let ME finish it! I can't use an unfinished paintjob in my portfolio, or when I post it on line it just doesn't look right because technically it is not finished. Then when you put the decals on all half assed, and say "hey check out this lid NCNitro painted for me" it makes me look bad because you, not me, half assed the decals. Grrrrrrrrrr. I just finished a lid for a good friend and can't post the pics, or use them in my portfolio because he did just this, witheld the decals. It really bothers me to work so hard on something and not get to finish it. Guess I am done with my rant but I just wanted to get that off my chest. If you send me a lid to paint you BETTER send the decals or it's coming back clear, and postage due!

yea man i hear ya. when candyman did my baja, i sent him all kinds of decals, with loose ideas of kinda where i would like them and let him run with it. I would rather one of you guys with the steady painters hand put them on instead of me f'in it all up anyway.

I only put on the necessary decals, window trim, grille, head lights, tail lights, stuff like that. Then I send all the rest back with the lid. It's just very frustrating to not be able to showcase the finished product.

NC...just start painting the headlights and stuff ;-) Finish it yourself buddy!

I have tried the headlight thing, but they never look like a "real" headlight. Some of the new decals are amazing, just look at the ones that come with the new pro-line Jeep lids. For a touring race car or truggy where realism isnt an issue that would be fine, but painting winch cable, warn logos, Jeep logos, stuff like that aint about to happen. People already choke when I give them a price, (but that's another rant for another day) I would have to add a substantial amount if I had to start doing that.

Lol now I feel silly since I didnt send you the decals for the lid you painted for me :hehe:

Joe is right. Headlights are hard. I made an attempt on Randy's SC truck. They don't look bad but they're not great either.

I'm with you Joe. I don't put a lot of decals on when I paint for someone. But the job's not finished until the headlights, tail lights and grill are on. I let the customer decide about sponsor decals and any other details. Well....except for beason's but he and I had a lot of conversations about the decals and a bunch of paint details I added into the job to make them pop.

Those are all I put on too Jeff, then I send all the rest back with the lid. I hate that the one I just did will never be able to make it in to my portfolio. It sucks to put that much time and effort in to a lid when someone holds on to the decals. I won't do another one though without them, that's for sure.
