if i took off the skid plate and buffed it out real good could i spray paint it and make it stay? I'm not liking the purple on my mt and I'm wanting to change it if i can

if its aluminum then you would have to scratch it up a little and then hit it with some spray paint. i dont know how well it will stay on there. for plastic you would do the same thing but use a spray paint designed for plastic othere wise you would need a adhesive promotor to allow the spray paint to bond correctly

If its aluminum, spray with "etch primer" (or "etching primer") allow to dry, then, using a standard primer first, spray as per normal with an automotive paint .

Plastics are a different ball game altogether, as each type of plastic has different preperation needs if paint is to adhere to it properly.

If its aluminum and annodized you an strip the anno off using easy off oven cleaner, then polish it. If it's plastic you can dye it black using rit dye to cover the purple. Paint on a skid is going to scratch and show the purple through the scratches no matter what you do to prep it.

it is a aluminum skid plate and yea i knew it would scatch and show back up but for the most part i want to change it. so the easy oven cleaner will work? do i still need to buff it after this

Yep, easy off in the yellow can. But be careful, if you leave it on too long it will pit the aluminum. Best way is spray it on, let it sit about 3-5 minutes, then rinse. repeat until the anno is gone. You can then use some aluminum polish and polish the aluminum. I have a polishing wheel on my bench grinder so it's real easy for me to shine it right up.

I stripped all the green off my AX10 Scorpion, then polished it all up, I like it much better this way.
