Ok I'm on a tight budget buy need to keep with my theme. I'm going all black with my new baja and want to paint the stock body black to match. Flat black is what I'm really going for, so... Can I paint the out side of the body with normal spray paint, in flat black? Also is there any way of getting the paint of the inside of the body? If the paint on the outside scratched it would revel the orange under and I couldnt live with that lol. Thanks for any help.

I've just done the exact sme thing to my revo had a crappy orange body and put 5 coats of thick hammerite black spray paint on top and one roll and it was hello orange again it will cover it in the very short term but not very well, in my experience wasn't worth the effort, I'm not sure about getting the paint off the inside maybe a paint stripper bath for it?

Yes you can paint the outside flat black, very easily. Yes you can get the orange off the inside, but that won't be easy.

To get the orange off you can use brake fluid. Saturate the inside with the brake fluid and let it soak, for a long lime. keep coating it until the paint gets soft and then you can get it off, but it will take a lot of work.

To paint the outside you can use Krylon ultra flat black. It adheres very well to lexan and wont crack off like regular spray paint will. I have used it no less than 5 times and it works great. I have also used Krylon ultra flat olive drab on an old CJ8 body I had, worked great for that too.

Any paint stripper that you use to remove paint, will destroy Lexan.

The brake fluid idea might work.

You can paint the outside of the body, but prepping it is important. Paint doesn't stick to anything "shiney". It needs to be sanded or scuffed so the paint sticks.

2000 grit, or gray Scotchbrite pads work.

Here inlies the problem: Even if you get the paint to stick, one rollover and it's trashed.

R/C Action and another recent publication hjas tech articles for using spackle tape for designes and doing a really nice paint job. Problem is, all that work and it takes nothing to ruin it.

If it's flat black you want, I'd be interested in seeing how well spray-on truck bed liner works. I't used in a lot of real world 4x4 interiors, (instead of carpeting) and even on the bodies.

Compared to spray paint, it surely would be more durable. (and heavy)

No, it will work. I have done it more than once.

Wrong, like I said, I have done it no less than 5 times. On a PCR buggy lid, crawlers, monster trucks, and it holds up extremely well, and when it does start to look like crap you can just shoot a new coat on it.

So unless you have tried it yourself, and I have, please don't say it can not be done. Because with the right paint, yes it can. I have done it quite a few times.

I never said it "Couldn't be done"..... Eventually, it'll scrape and scratch, easier them Lexan.

Any paint will scratch if you slide an RCcar on the street.

I've done it.

Any time I've painted on the outside, I've also done the same color on the inside. That way, if it rolls over you won't be looking through clear scratches. It will only be another gash in the Lexan.
Want to get creative? Paint the inside silver or rust brown, then when it scratches it get 'Character'.

Yep, that's the ticket!

.

A lexan body painted on the inside will scratch too, you can't fix that with a fresh coat of paint. Krylon ultra flat sticks incredibly well, and is extremely difficult to scratch off. And like I said before, when it starts looking like crap, just throw a fresh coat of flat over it and it will look brand new again. Can't do that when painted on the inside.

That was my plan rolex, if I got the inside paint off. I'm going to go to wallyworld later and see how much a thing of brake fluid is. If its more then 10 dollars I'm going to serriously concider a new body. My current body I wanted to do this to is craked in several places, but I just wanted the cheap way out lol. Well see, I may just shoot it with some krylon and see what happens. Thanks for your help guys.

WAY too heavy! You would end up with a two to five pound lid...

No, it will work. I have done it more than once.

I guess Painter of the Year doesn't mean much to some people...
