I'm new to it too. Here is a good site that should answer your questions. http://www.rctech.net/articles/painting_hauntedmyst.shtml
I used Pactra on mine. You should be able to use Pactra and Alclad together, as they are both laquers. Have to watch the water-based paints. Don't think you could back them with a laquer. The other guys would be more help there.
Till I learn more I am sticking with one brand of paint. I'm sure one color won't attack the other.

is this hood vent moulded into the body or stuck on after painting
i think it is stuck on after painting just want to check

i want to stick it on the ram body i am also getting

thanks that site helps a lot (i'm not new to it i just want advice for using different paints together)

The hood is put on after...when you trim it out you need to leave enouf so the hood can fit over the body mounts..Trust me I f#c*ed mine up the first time I did one LOL...
If you want to mask with tape use blue painters tape.

Masking tape shouldn't bleed. Do yourself a favor and get a good quality vinyl tape from an auto body supply store. Come in several widths, too.
I used a paper tape (3M brand) when I was painting my Eindecker. http://www.balsausa.com/kits/kit.htp?id=11&shopperid= It stuck so hard that it pulled the paint. The guy at NAPA told me it wouldn't do that. The vinyl is easier to work with, stretches, and pulls off better than the paper.

You can also use this. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX8245&P=0 for masking off larger areas or cutting your own masks. It can be bought at a auto body supply store too.
Let us know how it turns out.

any tips for making stripes about 3-4mm wide

for the ram i was thinking red with 2 chrome stripes down the middle with 2 thinner black ones at the side of the chrome

For the hemi i am thinking of using the fusion with chrome bumpers etc

To prevent bleeding under the tape, burnish the edges of the tape before you spray. That's rubbing down the edges with a rounded smooth stick of wood. That seals the edge tighter to the lexan.
Before you peel the tape, slice along the edge with an X-Acto knife. That way it won't pull any paint off.

I dont think there is an acrylic paint avail in spray can, which is usually used to back the Alclad Chrome? What did you use to back it with? I believe another laquer backer will make it look like brushed aluminum.

Nice lid tho. The color-change looks great.

Thanks

I didn't get any of the chrome in the end just used silver

well as far as paint goes, use grades that are close in quality and laquer content. dont combine model paint with automotive paint. the auto paint will peel the model paint.
