Paint questions

Finally painted a little mini-t body I've had for sometime. Got some questions before I do my Savage and Rustler body.

Was using a metalflake gold in a badger airbrush. Couldn't get it to spray a fine line. I'm guessing the tip is too small? Probably not going to get a very fine line anyway because of the flake?

When using the airbrush, I'm getting like cobwebs inside the body. I'm using Pactra paint with 20lbs. of air pressure. Too much pressure?

Want to try the Spazstick chrome. All my paint is the Pactra. I could paint the Spazstick last, right?

If your getting cobwebs, it's not thinned enough.
You have to thin it out more with paint thinner..

cobwebs can also come from too high of pressure. I found Pactra likes 15psi the best. Which pactra is it? Is it the acryl or lacquer?

Lacquer. Had heard somewhere could be pressure. Shot it straight out of the bottle, so I'll thin in next time.

I always try to shoot my chrome first, if feasible.. When spraying chrome, the area needs to be perfectly clean. If there's any overspray, you will see it in the chrome. It may look clean, but there is almost always overspray through or under masking. If you have to shoot the chrome later on in the job, just make sure you clean the areas with DA before shooting the chrome..
One tip with the chrome... Chrome can not be rushed.. 1 light coat per 8hrs of dry time. No speeding up with a hair dryer. At least 4-5 coats need to be applied. Once fully cured, needs to be backed with a water based black.

The spaz stix chrome needs to be backed with an acrylic black. They sell there own backer, but any acrylic black will work. Spray it in several VERY light coats. You really won't even see it till you get a few coats on, but it will really pop once you back it.

Getting a fine line with metal flake will be very difficult, the flake will clog a fine needle.

Spazstiks can be srayed right out of the bottle.
No thinning needed.

For the flake are you using FasGlitter? Are you mixing the flake directly in the paint?

Flake was already in it. (Pactra) Don't think I'll use it again except for backing maybe?

All I use are the Pactra lacquers & acrylics and Spazstix chrome (just got some Spaz candy & color change)

Always spray the lacquers first then the acrylics.

For the chrome I just spray some on, then spray some more on (no waiting between coats) until I can't see through the area anymore. I have backed it in as little as 2 hours and haven't noticed any difference in effect. I always back it with Pactra Acryl RC5100 Basic Black.

As far as the metal flake ......... NEVER ......... I sprayed Indy Silver RC62 ONE time and I will never do that again, It made a huge mess inside my Badger brush. Now I just keep that color in a spray can.

I thin both the lacquers and acrylics .... I add as much thinner as it needs to make it feel & spray right.

I use a Badger 175 Crescendo and average 20psi while spraying.

Thought I would post a couple of pics of my body. I've had it for about a year, just getting the nerve to paint it. You can see why I was asking questions... Fade on front sucked, The gold was supposed to outline it to start with (got ticked off and let it fly), didn't have any chrome paint...
I learned a lot with it and hope the next one is a little better.
First time with my airbrush and the liquid mask.

Actually it doesn't look bad. that's kinda what happens when you do fades on complex curves. I guarantee you it will look very cool once you get some decals on it.

Maybe I'll post a pic after I get decals on. It's starting to grow on me. Should be easier to paint a larger body. Little mini kinda awkward for an old fart. Got a crowd pleaser body for my Rustler, it's next. The streamliner for my Savage. Think I'll wait a bit on that one.

It dries fuel-proof right? Just seems strange to me to put water-based paint on a nitro car. Sorry for all the questions.

I seal all my bodies with FasKoat, before pulling the window masks off.. This stuff dries & leaves a great fuel/scratch resistant protective coating... It also dries very quickly..

So the Fasblack needs additonal protection to make it fuelproof?
