I have the Merv and every single time i go outside with it it will haul ass for like 2 mins then the stock esc blinks red because its in that dangerous temp zone. if i buy one of those heat sinks for the motor do they actually help? and what fan would fit on that esc?

its running on single zippy 2200 mah 2 cell and my current average temps outside when it overheats is around 85-95degrees

Check for binding or any other "drag", if anything is stopping it from rolling smooth you will be putting extra strain on the motor. What gearing are you using, what size tires, where are you running and have you added any parts that may have added weight?

It sounds like it's geared a bit tall if everything is spinning freely. Drop it a couple of teeth on the pinion and it should work a bit better. Traxxas tends to over gear their electrics IMO.

its all stock and that esc just keeps blinking red after a min or two

Stock with the speed pinion still installed? Mine and a buddies merv came new with the big pinion installed. That gear is too tall for anything but pavement and short runs. If you ran it with the 28t pinion for any amount of time, it may have damaged the esc and/or motor.
