Today I was runnin my rusty up and down the road and got a little to far away. With as much as I have into this thing I should have a failsafe, but I didnt. Anyway you probably know where this is going but it went WOT down the street and managed to make a 90 degree turn down the next street. On its trip around the block going full speed both rear tires went. Here are a few pictures thought some of you might enjoy. So what do you all recomend for a failsafe? Thanks!

And here is the beast itself

I have been using an OFNA microfailsafe with no problems for the passed 2 yrs. Others will have something different to say about OFNA. Another popular brand is the Venom. Can't go wrong with either one. All my cars have failsafes and trs (throttle return spring).

I never really run a far distance away I am usualy a short range kinda guy, and havent had any interference problems either but after today I will get a failsafe for all of my rigs. Suprised I got away with it for this long. Ohwell I needed the 1/4 mile work out. It was just funny how it turned the corner and keep going.

I like the ofna one as well, but it's the only one I've used. I have one in my savage and my buggy.

How much other damage did the runaway cause? Just blow tires?

Yeah just the tires, I am very lucky that there were no cars on the road or that it didnt hit something cause it was cookin. It hit what was left of a melted snowbank and stoped just off the road upside down in the dirt.

all i have to say about that is WOW i have a failsafe int he mail and am scared when I run with out one

Use the Venom. From what I have heard,it will also protect even when there is a freq. conflict,the Ofna will not.

From OFNA's site:

OFNA Micro Fail Safe Unit - #91002 - Install & Setup
** FITS MOST IF NOT ALL U.S. R/C RADIOS **
The OFNA Fail Safe unit is used to protect your RC car from loss of control due to:
* Weak radio signal
* Low radio batteries
* Radio interference of any kind
* Another radio on the same channel
* Low receiver car battery

The Fuzzy Logic CPU operates on 3.8 to 6.0 volts DC from your receiver battery pack.
Warning- If receiver is dead or removed or car battery is switched off, THE FAIL SAFE UNIT WILL NOT FUNCTION, nor provide any RC control protection. **

i like the dynamite failsafe alot. its smaller and earier to set then the venom

just be aware when you are using digital servos that these things can be real finicky.....I've had more issues from them than they have solved...I have 1 HRS receiver that has safety built in...it's the only thing I've found to be reliable w/ Digital....

You heard wrong.

I use Ofna's in all my rides and have never had a problem with them. They have even saved me a couple of times.

Biggest difference between the two
Ofna = futaba style connector
venom = jr style connector.

Do you really need a trs with a fail safe?

I run a TRS and a failsafe in my Savage and Mayhem. The TRS is always a good safety net because it will protect the car in the event that you batteries become disconnected or something causes the power to be interrupted. It also will protect the car in the case of a linkage failure where the failsafe will not.

All you have to do is trimming with a sharp blade and the ofna will fit all receivers.

A trs/fail safe combo is the safest way to go. The failsafe will only work if you have some battery power. If you were to somehow loose all battery power while running, the trs will be the only thing that will save you.

The same Ofna FS has kept my savage alive more than once and prevented an early edn to my day.

Looks like you got really lucky. My runnaway ended up in a huge mess lol

Yeah pretty lucky, Its just weird how the tires riped like that. They were perfect before the whole deal.

Yeah they look like they had lost of tread left, looks like a bad batch of tires since they ripped almost at the same place on both tires. By the way that is a sweet Rustler, I have 2 electric ones that are a blast, I think my next rc is going to be a nitro one hehe

actually no he hasnt. I've seen an ofna failsafe equipped vehicle still take a hit from another radio, it was at a local indoor track in the middle of a race, someone in the pits not paying attention as usual. and within the last few months one of the mags (rc driver or xrc i think) did a review on a few popular failsafes and found the venom to be the only one with full protection, the ofna failed the "hit" protection from other radios.

if you like your ofna, by all means use it. something is better than nothing. but keep in mind it may not protect you from other radios on the same channel.

Well I think I'm pretty safe in the whole region of 10 kilometers I think i'm the only one with a nitro car lol
