I am putting this thing together.

I am stuck at the engine stage.

Question 1. Does the drive hub need to be left on? The pictures look like its taken off the engine. can't really tell. Its the metal piece with the swirly lines on it to grab a propeller. (I think)

Question 2. If I do take it off. I then slide on the collet then flywheel that came with the NTC3 Factory Team. There isnt enough crankshaft for the "SG clutch nut", and too much crankshaft for the "standard clutch nut".

Do I need to cut the crankshaft down?

Where do I cut it at?

1. Take off that drive hub.
2. You may need to shim behind the collet to get it to the necessary space for the flywheel to align with the gears.

The only time you cut the crank is if you have a Standard threaded crank in order to get it to she shortened crank length.

How do I know what crank I have?

With the shorter clutch nut, "sg" it just slips over the crank shaft, its too big and too short. With the other one, the one labeled "standard clutch nut" its threaded right bu all the way on there is nearly 1/4" between it and the flywheel.

Threaded shaft is just that ... it's a shaft that's threaded from base to tip. SG has a thread only down towards the base and the reast is smooth. Look at the box that the engine came in. It will tell you what kind of crank you have.

The box, nor th emanual, nor OS website says what kind of crankshaft it is. Since the SG clutch nut is too big (threads) I can't see how its an SG.

The regular one wont go down far enough. The crankshaft is almost 1/4" too long from what I can tell.

The box that the engine came in? OS puts it there. It'll say .18 CV-R with either an SG or s next to it. Look at the side of the box.

If it is the short thread version, you need to put on the clutchnut that is specified for the threaded version.

This us an SG crank

This is a threaded crank

This is the Threaded crank, but the Shortened version which is needed for the NTC3

its the second. I have to use the "non-sg" clutch nut. Its all that fits. And the SG crank shaft has the hollow threaded end, which mine does not.

So it goes collet, flywheel, then clutch nut.

But the clutch nut wont go down far enough. crank looks too long.

That means you have the standard length. You need to cut it to the required length. AE has a cut-off nut that they offer to cut the shaft to the required length. You can do that or take it to the LHS and have them cut it to the required length. They'll measure and cut or use a cut off nut to get the needed length.

This is the cut off nut you need to do it yourself with a dremel and a cutoff wheel.

Cool.

Thanks a lot for the help. I appreciate all the responses. I assumed I had to cut it but didnt want to mess up.

Thanks again.
