The biggest problem with starting off with a Pede is that if you drop 300 bucks on a Pede (I'm saying 300 since you are posting in the nitro forum I'm assuming you are referring to nitro MTs) they arent gonna get the same feel for it as a $465 Savage X for example. The Nitro Pede is 2WD for one thing and not nearly as durable as the savage. Id say in for a penny in for a pound and buy the better stuff. If there really not sure then let em play with yours some more.
I have been very impressed with Losi's customer service, my LST XXL came with a dead servo and leaky shock when I called them it was no questions asked and they sent replacements out. After I had it for over a month my pull start broke and again I called and they sent a new starter out no problem. I am also blown away by the durability of the LST, I hit a curb @ 46mph and all it did was bounce off. It has had numerous high speed tumbles and cartwheels and all I've broken is one shock shaft after hitting a metal pole at a playground.I know the LST is almost $700 so it's out of their price range but the Aftershock is set up on the same chassis design and is only $400. The Aftershock is also easily converted into a LST XXL, you can get the parts needed from ebay for real cheap. I don't think there are any "quality" 4x4 MTs out there for under $400, unless they go used.
