What's up guys,
Sorry for the lame questions, but I'm a newbie and could use a little help. I have a RS4 2 and a Hot Bodies Lightning RR Buggy (1/10 & 1/8). I would like to pick up a new FM setup for both cars and run both cars from the same receiver. Maybe AM, I don't get much interference and I won't be racing.

But I was wondering if it is feasible to pick up a setup and replace all the receivers, transmitters, etc. for both cars

I was looking at something like:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGAG4**&P=ML

Does anybody know additionally what I would need to get everything set up for both cars from that kit or maybe a different kit? I don't want to spend top dollar, but I don't want a cheap pos poop either.

thanks again guys

You need receiver for each rc, and also another matching crystal.

so there is no way to use one controller(receiver) for 2 cars? not simultaneously either heh. I swear I've seen people do it

You could do it, if the servo directions are the same, but it'd be impossible to control both cars. These aren't toy r/c cars from radio shack or toys r us, doing something like that is dangerous

Ooops. I think you've got your terms mixed up. The part you hold to control the car is the transmitter. The receiver is the little sqaure thing you put in the car that the servos plug in to.
So, with that straightened, the answer to your question is yes, you can do that. And with the radio you picked. What you would need to do is to buy a separate FM receiver for each car. And a receiver crystal for each. With the radio you picked, it has a 10-model memory so you could store trim settings for each ride separately. Assuming you used the same frequency crystal in all your cars, all you'd have to do is pick the program in the transmitter that corresponds to whichever car you're driving and you're all set.

ya I did lol, thank you very much

to setup both cars

additional:
2 Futaba S3003 Servos - $23
1 Futaba R133F 3-Channel FM 27MHz w/o Short Crystal - $50
1 crystal set - $26
total $99

I might as well spend the extra $30 and get whole another kit lol which includes

One 3PM FM Transmitter
One R133F FM receiver
Two S3003 Standard Servos (FUTM0031)
One crystal set
One receiver battery box w/"J"connecter (No Number)
One switch harness (FUTM4350)
Two accessory package w/rubber grommet, screw, brass eyelet (FUTM35551
One frequency flag set (No number)
One instruction manual (No number)
Optional Transmitter NiCd: (FUTM1462)
Optional Receiver NiCd: (FUTM1295)
Optional NiCd Charger: (FUTM1830)

Wig, You really don't need two additional servos, most servos will work in different brand receivers, so the servos currently in your car/buggy should be just fine. Also, $26 for a set of crystals seems a bit steep. Really if you don't mind a couple minute job between rides you could survive on one set of crystals. This brings your buy list down to only the $50 reciever.

My :2cents:

Here's what I do. Every time I get a new RC and have to buy an RX. I get a new set of crystals with a different channel every time. that way I have a variety of channels to use or lend as it usually goes...and get the RPM crystel case too it's very organized....if anyone from RPM is reading this, how about a sales position, I'm open to discussing salary/commission rates.....
Anyway I just set up the different cars/trucks whatever w/ a different channel so all I have to do is change the reciever crystals....By the way I have the 3PM and it rocks...took a little getting used to the programming but once you get it, it's very user friendly......and don't wast money on the stock futaba servos...spend a few more bucks and get the hitec 645mg at least..... well worth the money and with the thought about buying the whole other set up.....that money would be better spent getting the better servos and battery packs for your new gear....another upgrade that's money well spent.....and doesn't anyone buy from LHS anymore....you guys realize most shops will stay competitive with tower to get your business....the more money you throw at you rLHS the more likely they will be to start a track and invest in your local area, why send your money to some other state's shop and let them benefit from it....SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHOP PEOPLE!!!! who cares if you save 3 dollars on a $10 item......talk to your LHS mngr...and see if he'll match or even beat tower....I know mine does....or better yet if you want to send your money somewhere else send it to www.SoutheastRC.com . those guys know their poop and truly support the local RC-ers.....well I just got way more political than I needed to over a hobby, lucky I didn't go into the way america is doing the same thing w/ our jobs and giving them to people overseas......I'll stop ranting now
Nuff Said
-E-

Oh yeah I do understand that not everyone has alocal RC shop so that rant was not directed at you guys

Damn, fishman, you are on a roll this afternoon....Too much coffee??

lol. The reason I go with tower is I get the parts at my door before I even have a chance to get to my LHS -- plus they have never dicked me around or messed up an order. between the week, taking care of my son, and driving 30 minutes one way in the san francisco bay area traffic to get to a shop isn't my idea of fun :)

thanks for your help and suggestions guys

YES I have
HAD
WAY 2 MUCH today
and I am really not into doing what I should be doing today
we're trying a new blend and I doubled the amount
AAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!?!? 34mins left

I use 1 controler for 3 cars I race competatively. As soon as I get a car, I am orering a receiver for it as well. What I like is that I don't have to carry a crystal case anymore since I went synthesized. All I do is carry a smal screwdriver or the small adjustment tool that came with my receiver.

If you want to take it to an extra step, get the JR XS3Pro. Goes for about $220. Recviers go for about $74. It can handle up to 10 models. Set each car to a different frequecy if you wish. When you set up the radio, it remembers everything for that model so no fumbling around anymore. Just hit the scroll button and pick your model.

I was going to wait for the synthesized 3pm but saw too many glitches w/ the JR synth. radios...so I opted for the good old fashioned method of hard wired frequencies (crystals)..I've heard there is a new technology that is eliminating frequency issues alltogether...just like your cell phone you will have a coded digital signal that can be broadcst on the same freq. as the guy next to you but will only be recieved by tour RX...I saw a pic in one of the new mags at a friends this weekend....anyone got info on this? the RX has NO antennae....wouldn't that be killer, no funky stick popping through the body....OK i'm on my 2nd Mug o Joe now gettin warmed up...

I think the set was an add-on for your exisitng TX.

Generally when theres new radio technology its really expensive for a while, so I dont think a newbie is gonna be too interested in that.

I havent paid much attention to new radios because i like my 3pdf and 3pj. Both of these are made by Futaba and theyre really high quality.
Maybe if you're lucky you can find a hobby shop thats still trying to get rid of its last 3pjs and 3pdfs. Theres one by me that has the 3pdf complete with servos and receiver for 89.99.

Plaidfish, the radio without crystals is that 2.4 ghz thing. I can't remember the company (unheard of in RC), but I remember the transmitter.... UGLY!!!

Anyway, I though I'd add that you can sometimes mix recievers of different brands.

This hitec, forexample can be used with Futaba TX's:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXN522&P=7

This opens up your options.

Also, Plaidfish hit the nail on the head. SUPPORT YOUR LHS! Just cause you can find ALMOST anything you want on tower, doesn't mean you should order it from them. Pay the buck or two extra and give the LHS all the business you can.

I learned that lesson when I had a skateshop in Queens....everybody was bitchin about 5 dollars more than CSS mail order but wasn't taking into consideration the costs of keeping a shop open and the value of having a local hangout/community voice...local shops are always trying to get community money into whatever you're doing so you don't have to pay 30 dollars to go use a private facility...whether it's a race track or a skatepark or Biketrack or whatever....remember when your money leaves your community it's just making someone elses community (or Pockets) that much phatter.....yes I used the vernacular of todays youth! Nobody who gives business to mail order companies (when they can get to a local shop) should EVER Bitch about how cool the track in the magazine is.....get off your ass and support your own Community......okay there's my daily rant......If you guys couldn't tell this has been a very sore topic for me for many years and for many reasons.....I'm goin to start a new thread about this and bitch my whiney ass heart out.....later though, I need to get some work done now....

I supported my LHS so much, they sponsored me to go racing. Only thing I had to do was bring a bin full of parts and foams for them at the track while I flew their banner on my EZ-up.

Regardless of whether they sponsored me or not, I would still do the same thing since they help me with so much. Getting stuff on the internet is fine, BUT I only do that when I have no choice and that very rarely happens. My LHS gets everything it can from Horizon hobbies or from other places and can get it to me in 2 days.

I prefer to deal with an actual human than with someone over the phone or placing an order through their purchaseing system.
