I got a NTC3 RTR as my first R/C car. I was looking to upgrade it to a Fantom FR12. This mill is rear Exhaust. The current stock mill is a side exhaust. Am i going to have problems with this? If so what can I do to fix this silly little problem......

You will need a side exhaust Fantom.

I believe.

When I went go buy my NTC KIT, I had to get the model that would accommodate rear exhaust AND bump start. The 2 speed versions also play a roll in the exhaust setup as well.

I almost positive that you have to get a side exhaust. But heck, wouldnt be the first time I was wrong.

Here's all that you need:

The header and pipe for rear exhaust.

And you might also want to get a motor mounts and flywheel for the non-pullstart. But that isn't a must, but it will help your engine run more freely and drop the CG a little.

Also, you MAY need a different clutch nut if the crankshaft isn't the same as the new engine.

ok which one is true.

Both have a lot of experience?? and I would trust what either of you have to say..............

If you don't want to buy a new header/pipe, then get a side exhaust fantom like christian said. But if you want rear exhaust, then you'll need to buy a new header/pipe.

Also, is the fantom you're getting a pullstart or non-pullstart?

Do you have an LHS you can take it to?

Also, are you running 2 speed?

Like I was saying, I wasn't certain whether or not it would be right. I just was pointing out that when I bought one I had to make the choice whether or not I wanted the side/rear exhaust, bump/pull start, single/2 speed. All for the reasons of how things layout and FIT on the chassis.

So with all those combinations you can see why I wouldnt be certain.......

kwong has probably already done it.

I started with an NTC3 rear exhaust, 2 speed, pull start right from the get go. So I'm not the expert on making the RTR work that way.

I am running the 2-speed on my RTR...... I am currently using a bump start box on my pull start engine. I just took off the pull starter and sealed it back up, so it is running on pull start mounts, and a pull start everything else.

I would have to get the bump start mounts, flywheels, and ??? what else is there that I am needing?

I would not even dare ask my LHS for help. They are not that friendly towards semi-newbies.... They cater to their professional customers.... I dont spend more than $100 there a year. I get most of my stuff off the net... www.towerhobbies.com is my LHS

Okay assuming the new engine is a rear exhaust, the only things you'll for sure need is a rear exhaust header and exhaust

Optional is the non-pullstart motor mounts and flywheel. But those aren't necessary. What you have WILL work. It just isn't as good as the non-pullstart ones.

Thanx for all the help... I am still trying to decide on a mill to use, but this helps out TONS!!!

Are you sure he's not going to run into the tank?

Even if you do, then you may have to replace the mounts at that point. Until then, run with Kwong. Hes been there and done that.

I just started there so its hard for me to say.

The cool part is, you are getting a rear exhaust which I think are a LOT better than side.

Did you catch that new Mugen .12 that just came out, or is coming out?

I just might have too look into the new Mugen....... Hmmmmm... decision decisions

Check out my picture. Rear exhaust header with the non-pullstart engine mounts (lower CG).

It clears it.
