Hey Guys,

Looking at possibly picking one of these up and converting my X1 CR over to electric. The conversion kits are self explainatory. The questions that I have surround the HV BL motors. Novak has two types of HV motors. One set is the "Regular" and the second is boasting 5mm shafts. What difference would this make? I am assuming the bigger shafts mean longer motor life and more durable? If you did go with the larger shaft, would that mean you would have to get your pinion gears from Novak? Also which size BL motor would be recomended for powering an 1/8 scale suffeiciantly? Sorry for the rash of questions, I thought I had a good idea of what I needed, now I am not so sure. Thanks in advance.

Tom

The 5Mm shaft is the "new and improved" version of the motor. Thats what i run on my esavage and its very very beefy. I had to order a pinion from fine design rc. I just specified tooth, pitch, and shaft diameter and i got my pinion. At $22 each, make sure you get the right one. I am running the 6.5 HV and it stays really really cool. I ran it hard for 25 minutes yesterday and it was warm but not hot. If it can throw around that hefty 9.9lb savage, i am sure it will be enough to power a 1/8 buggy. I went with the 6.5 because i wanted the torque and i didn't want my savage going 60mph.

Well I just bought the Novak HV Pro (the new one). A lot of guys were having to convert the old motors over to a 5mm shaft anyway, so Novak went ahead and put it on their new motors from the start. The Novak HV Pro ESC also has quite a few upgrades, and more settings and throttle profiles that you can adjust.

Robinson Racing make a full range of Module 1 pinion gears with 5mm shafts Charlie. A Main stocks them all. Its good gear and I just picked up 5 different tooth numbers for my brushless CRT .5

make sure you check the pitch. I think robinson racing only makes 48 pitch. The esavage was 32 pitch so now i have a 5mm 17T robinson racing 48 pitch pinion in my junk drawer.\

this is a standard 17T RRP next to a 5mm 17T RRP

Mod1 is the nomenclature for the pitch that will work with 1/8 scale spur gears. 48P and 32P are normally found on 1/10 scales.

Thank you guys for the info. SweetD thank you for clearing the MOD1 info. That was my next question.
