Hello all. I am "ndp", a noob.

I recently bought an LST2. The truck runs great with the exception I can't get it to shift into second gear.

Can you help?

I adjusted the slipper and the 2-speed adjustment screws as per the manual. Still, no luck.

Please advise.

Welcome to the site, there is a huge wealth of knowledge here and we'll get you up and running. Glad that you read the manual and eliminated the easy stuff. If the truck, and more importantly the engine, are new then it may not be sufficiently broken in yet to be producing enough power to shift yet. My lst2 didn't hit 2nd until I had probably 3/4 of a gallon through it. If the 2nd gear clutch and the slipper are adjusted to the factory settings I would leave them there for a while, it will be really close. Other possibilities if the engine has been fully broken in that it needs to be tuned for a bit more power. Have a look at the tuning guide that is a sticky in the engine section.

edit: rolex beat me to it, and a lot less wordy too!

My fault, folks.

I should've mentioned that I bought the truck off of eBay. A good friend of mine who has an LST2 as well, told me the truck hasn't been run that much.

Broken in, yes. But not too much life on the engine.

Give it more time/fuel through the engine. You can try loosening the two speed screws a bit, but more than likely if the engine is still new'ish, it may not be getting to the RPM's needed to kick in 2nd.

Cool, I will try that the next couple of days and get back to all of the appreciated advice.

I am still not getting second gear. I have the transmission set on "H" for high, set the speed screws back to factory specs, and have leaned as much as I can without going overboard.

I will keep running some tanks and be patient, but if you have any more suggestions, please send 'em.

Sometimes shifts

I just bought an LST2 in December 2008 and have 2 gallons of fuel burned and I have the same problem. It shifted fine at first but now it sometimes don't shift. Yesterday, I ran it for at least 20 minutes before it started to shift normally. I ran it full throttle a lot hoping the centrifugal force would eventually make it shift. I have been running it in the snow so I think it may have a bit of corrosion in it. I will be taking it apart to see this week.

That was very mild. I think they were referring to your use of the year 2008. You should see football fan forums - they're brutal.

Did you make any adjustment to the tranny? I looked at other forums and they said tightening the slipper a bit might work. I'm going to try that myself.

Dig out your manual. There's a grub screw inside an access door that allows you to advance or retard the shift point. If you're sure it's in first and not stuck in second, turn that adjustment about 1/8 turn COUNTER clockwise, to make it shift sooner. If it shifts too soon, or too late, you now make tiny adjustments in the proper direction.
It's normal to adjust that when the car is new and still 'settling' in.

Have you checked to see if the clutch assembly is in tact? Check the slipper clutch to see that there are no defects or abnormalities?

Have you verified what Rolex said?

Is this the same screw (or two screws) on the 2-speed adjustment?

Yes. Look at your manual.
If you don't have one, go to our sponsor link for Team FastEddy and download it and print it for future reference.

The two screws between the spur gears are for adjusting the shift point, make sure you adjust them the same.

In my experience almost all trannies that won't shift are due to the engine not being tuned properly and not making enough rpms.....Just because it sounds loud doesn't mean it's turning enough rpms.

There's a rubber cover access door. It's not the screw straight in to center, but the one off center.

Rolex the Losi trucks are different from the maxx/Savage type tranny, this two speed is on the outside of the tranny....not as good IMO.
