Noob wheel question

Ok so I'm still a noob in some areas. One thing I still havent learn because I've just been using stock wheels and tires is how to figure out what tire will work with what wheel and visa versa. For example I have a pair of Dirt Bonez for my Savage and I want to find something other that the stock warlock rims that come with the savage X SS kit. Most sites dont even list the diameter and the width of the rim or the tires. Soemtime they might use a generic description in the title like a 3.7 or a 4.0.

Even sites like tower hobbies lists the diameters and the width but I can't find any rims with the exact same sizes as the warlock rims. I can find some kind of close but not exact. Does it have to be exact and if not how much margin of play do you have?

Sorry but anything outside of the stock rims and tires I can't figure out how to match them up.

Now SC stuff and 2.2 stadium truck tires and buggy tires are easy to figure out cuz they all say that in the title of it but the Monster Truck tires are really throwing me for a loop.

Anyone have any suggestion on how to make sure the rims and the tires you are buying will work together if they aren't stock?

I would suggest research. Your right theres ALOT of mfr's who dont always list the pertinent info about it. I have always used the ID of the tire as my starting point and build from there. If the ID of your tire is say 3.2 or 3.8 inches than you need to look at comparable rims with the same size OD of the rim (Say 3.2 or 3.8 inches). When dealing with rims/tires you dont need to go exact size as stock as this will help you with "gearing" options (Taller tires= higher topend / smaller tires= better lowend - to a point) Your biggest issue at hand would be not only ensuring you find the right size hex for what you run on your truck but that the tire ID is the same as the rim OD.

An example would be my MGT 4.6 It came with 3.8" rims and tires that were nearly 5.5" tall. I took them off and put a set of 3.2" RPM revolvers with HPI tires (4.7" tall but with a 3.2" ID that matched the OD of the rim). Not only did this help my lowend a little (lower profile tire) but it lowered my CG as well!

Yeah the problem is I can find some that have the same ID of tire but instead of the rim being 53mm deep like the stock it will only be something liek 41mm which to me seems like it would be to narrow. The SC, buggy, and ST tires all seem to have some sort of standardization but when it comes to MT tires it seems to be all over the place.

Ok so I've dug up some info on one of the things that was confusing me so badly. One of the problems I've been having is the HPI Dirt Bonz Tires go on a rim size 83mmX56mm (if memory serves) that appears to be an HPI proprietary size. They also dont make an white rims in that size that uses 17mm Hexs so, so much for gettign Dyable rims for those tires.

Just thought you guys want to know that if you ever go looking for HPI tires and rims.
