It has finally cooled off here in PHX Az. Got the savage out and blew the cobwebs off of it. After 1500 dollars I finally am able to drive it and appreciate the speed of the .26 outlaw. Now all I have to do is find a place that is cool to bash at. Any one in PHX have any recomendations? Aslo, I have extended chasis plates and am not able to pull wheelies, is this the norm? I am also running with zip ties as extra spacers for the rear shocks. Perhaps that is affecting the weight transfer as well. The truck screams, as it should with all the ka ching spent on it (upgrade, upgrade, upgrade). I realize that wheelies could grow tiresome but it would be a neat experience for me; kinda feel like something isn't right cuz it wont pull wheelies on demand like many of my fellow savage owners boast. It seems like it spins the wheels as if not enough traction with the stock tires. Might put the Joes back on and try again. Any thoughts?

cvds, titanium rear extended drive, failsafe, humpback, hitec5645, big joes, Picco.26, Nova head, roto start, extra tank, extended tvps, etc etc....

the extended chassis keeps it from doing wheelies i am sure you have enough power it is just mainly the extended chassis
altough the shocks may affect it a little

thanks for the quick reply, ill do without the wheelies, the extended tvp's are one upgrade I'm happy with. sure took a while to get the bugs worked out, but i think I'm there. I'm also running a 16t bell and 3 shoe mugen. Thought i might put the 14t back on and see what happens. What upgrade shoud i do next? I like the plastic parts, cheap, flex, cheap. Am I ready to enjoy? how about 4 spider diffs with gear lube? I hear that is a good trick, probably my next weakest link.

How is the extended chassis. I bent my stock one and i am wondering to the extended one is better. also who makes it?

I believe there are a couple makers of the extended TVP's, mine are hotbodies I believe. The only gripe I have is that I havent found anyone who makes an extended TVP skid plate. I think integy makes some cool extended TVPs and they have a real cool skidplate for em also, but it only bolts up to "their" TVPs. As for how do I like it? Seems to do real well, drives great, jumps better than great. I had it down in Mexico and the beach I was on was like 1/8 scale sanddunes, have not had as much fun with this truck since. can't find a place to bash quite like that here in Phx. It was so awesome. Smooth sand and jumps galore. One other thing I ran into that is a legitimate concearn. The picco took its tole on the rear driveshaft (center). The only replacement (upgrade) I know of is for sale at New Era, you will need to have a rear drive shaft that is one inch longer, hot bodies includes one with their kit but it is not Picco proof. So, I upgraded to New Era's product but it was a little short (1/8? inch). I ended up putting fuel line (small piece) in each cup at each end of the drive line to keep it centered between the tranny and the rear dif. All seems to be well, I can't wait to go down to Mexico now that the Picco is runnin good. Might pick up a New era skid plate and live with whatever gap results from the 1 inch extension. Something better than nothing? cheers...

I'm in Chandler. There is a new hobby shop called Hobby Action in Tempe. They are building a 1/8 scale off-road track for racing, and bashing on off-hours. A few of us are going to the new 101 highway near Dobson and Pecos. We have about 6 of us now there.

As far as wheelies, the Savage is hard to get one. You definitely need new tires, maybe the road-rage are the best. for the street wheelies. I get good results with t-maxx stock tires. I buy them cheap on e-bay, and abuse them.

My wheelie bars add a little weight in the back, so that may be helping me do wheelies.

THe shocks play a bigger role than the extended chassis. The shocks filled with loads of dampening will just aid the truck to do more wheelies, less dampening, the truck will absorb the force put to the rear, and therefore, less wheelies.

Not this discussion again...

In this instance, the longer chassis plays more into the wheelie issue than you would think SHK. By adding an inch or two in length, the new chassis length moves the center of gravity forward. The longer moment arm for the front end of the truck means the engine has to work that much harder to get the wheels off the deck.

While the shocks to play a part in the ability to generate a wheelie, the case being discussed here is less of a suspension set up question.

I would love to once again discuss the two schools of thought on wheelie generation with respect to suspension set up, but I think I'll just use the search function and post a couple of the links...

Of note, you could also adjust your gearing to obtain or negate wheelies. This handles power transfer from the engine to the wheels. If you gear for low end torque, you will be more likely to pull the wheels up. If you gear for top speed, then the likelihood of wheelies off the line is low.

Personally, the novelty of the wheelie wears thin pretty quickly...I think you should be happy that you have managed to do away with them.

Ok Ok, i dont really want to open up the shock stiffness reaction weight transfer type theories (I remember the posts). Can if everyone else wants to but my main purpose for the post was to see if others were getting wheelies with a similar set up as me. I kept hearin all the wheelie stories and havent experienced one on demand yet. But yeah, Skymaxx I know your right that the novelty wears off quick. I think the next annoying thing that I want to solve is how squirly this truck is. Will the diff lube and 4 spider make the truck accelerate and drive at speed better, or is it my stock alignment that could be to blame? It does ok now, but it is a little squirly when on the throttle aiming at a jump. What do you guys think?
