No Longer an OS Max Supporter - New Engines

It's more than likely the piston and the con-rod that wears out. The pistons and conrods are made of aluminum. The sleeve is made of brass with a chrome lining. Chrome is hard and slick, aluminum is soft and light. You do the math.

Well, it makes sense to me.

I've read on a diffrent forum (i think?) that the vzb's piston is of a super hard material and the way it is machined leaves no minute galleys in the piston and therebye lowers the pistons/sleeves ability to lubricate itself. who knows. too bad... that mill screams when its alive for the short time it is.

the last comment was pretty much correct. the new cast piston is too hard. it doesn't wear as evenly as the sleeve causing massive premature wear.

so the next question is what do i do with my engine?
just use it and wait? or pull it apart before the piston ruins the sleeve and change the piston? or send it back to OS?
I have 2 quarts so far and it's still perfect.
still have to preheat it so it won't stick at TDC.

at this time OS is saying there is nothing wrong. you can read their response to me in the past pages of this thread.

Yes nitro I fully understand. My question is do you think I should put in a different piston NOW before I have trouble.
My other thought is if youpre heat it and never let it run below 175 degrees which is the temp that the piston doesn't lock up at TDC but cranks smothly maybe I can get longer life out of it.?

do all you can. OS is not admitting anything is wrong so there is not replacement that will work better. plus, you can't replace a piston in an engine and not the sleeve, u have to do both, so might as well wait until a problem arises and go from there. i should note that not EVERY engine seems to have this problem.

OS ROCKS!!!!!!!!

Actually, OS is a good middle of the road brand to buy, depending on which engine you choose. The only reason I went with OS is due to my LHS guy telling me that he ran OS in his bashers.

Then, of course, a week or two later, he was all hopped up on Fantom's engines, saying how good they are.

Who knows? Who cares? Buy what you can afford, but do some research to figure out if what you can afford is worth wasting the $ on or if your better off piling up more $ for something better.

I run OS. The engines have treated me as well as i've treated them.

I won't play the quote game but you remember telling me you would never own anything but a OS. I said hay keep an open mind European engines are awesome, and you went on to tell me where to put it. I am not knocking your knowledge as you have a good amount the problem I have is when you are hot on a item it is the only cool one around and you let everyone know it and toot your own horn pretty loud. Thing is you are a hypocrit. We all learn and progress, and things I have thought were cool or the right thing, I have since learned I was wrong but I always leave it open as I am learning, while you on the other hand like to play expert.
