What do you guys think of the Traxxas rustler?

I know a few guys that have them and really enjoy them. The same guys also wish they had something bigger and faster. But it is a good starter rig.

i have a electric and love it, there pretty similar. there mostly good for on-road or dirt but not so good in grass, the jump great tho

It's solid "entry level" truck. They're great for the price.

wow :D thanks guys! any idea where I can pick up a second hand one or where to get a new one if I decide to go down that route? I live in the UK btw so I'm not sure if we have different places or web sites to America

P.S how much do they go for second hand, I think they are about £200 new?

I had a nitro and an electric....I ended up selling the nitro but not because I disliked the kit. I like the Rustler quite a bit and I'm not a big Traxxas guy.

Thank you :D!
What is the after market situation with them like? good hop ups or not really?

I found this one (^^^). I have a brand new never started hpi nitro star t3.0 so having a good engine isn't a problem but my question is how much do you guys think it is worth?

Rustler is an entry level Rig but has alot of Hop-Up part's available for it good Rig for backyard Bashing but dont think it's a Racer on the track...

I'v been looking for after market parts for the rustler and it seems the stampede and rustler are very similar? Is this true?

They are similar. The 'pede has a higher center of gravity than the Rusty as well as a bit more griund clearance.

It's a great rig, mine is my go to basher. I have a Losi LST XXL as my big MT basher, but I LOVE bashing my Rustler. If you get one, grab some RPM arms and towers along with a wider bumper. I'm running the RPM one right now but I've heard good things about the T-Bone racing one and T-Bone also offers a rear bumper/ wheelie bar. I about to try some Ten-T shocks on mine, but most just upgrade to the Traxxas Big Bores.

Having been looking into and it seems that there is an older version and a newer version, what key differences are there?
:hehe: Thanks again guys

Also what engine do they have as stock?

The Rustler has a Titan 540 brushed motor "stock out of box" I beleve it's a 15T motor & pretty much a dime a dozen @ HS... My suggestion to you is invest in a brushless motor & esc combo.. My bashing buddy has a rustler & he's running a Dynamite FUZE system in his rustler & think he's got around a 3800KV motor in it & running a 2 Cell 5000 Mah 7.4 volt lipo... If you go the brushless route dont get a motor past 4000 KV brushless motors IMO for a rustler are in the range of 2800 - 3800 KV's "nothing against a Higer KV" but you start getting in the 4000 4200 5000 KV motors now your looking at rustler that's going to be very quick & hard to control & IMO a 3800 motor is pretty quick as well more so if you couple up a 3 cell lipo with my bashing buddy sometimes does his ESC can handle up to a 3 cell lipo...

Thank you, I might look int getting a brushless rusty depending on how I like the nitro version.

Hey Grave, this is the Nitro section :hehe: The NITRO Rustler comes with the 2.5, the older (way older) version came with the Pro .15. As far as the 2 different versions now, I think the only difference is the radio system, one is 27mhz and the other is 2.4ghz.

OK Well I have just purchased a used rustler, it needs only a new engine block (has carb heat sink etc) but I have my hpi t3.0 to drop in it which should be fun :D. It has a few new bits and bobs such as exhaust and header, fuel line, clutch, shocks and spur. It also has a few spare thingys like a few tools/tool box and another new spur. it has Traxxas TQ remote but I don't know if its 2.4ghz until I see it which will hopefully be Thursday or Friday!
Again thanks for all the help :) I'll post up pictures of my new rig when I get it!
