RC Driving Style
Hi folks,

I want some type of car with a internal combustion engine. I don't know much about the Nitro RC stuff but i'd like to buy a kit that has everything needed to start driving. Anyway I was hoping for any suggestions to what I should look for.

Thanks.

What kind of driving are you looking to do? Off road? On road? Racing or bashing? What kind of price range are you looking at?

You are going to need to find a used truck at that price. You should be able to find a used savage or t maxx for that or maybe even a revo. Be prepared to invest a little more shortly there after though when buying used.

off road, $150

Yeah you can't even get a Redcat for that price. You are going to have to look at used vehicles, and being brand new to nitro that's a very dangerous thing to do.

Let me warn you about something before you get into this hobby that nobody told me about. No matter how expensive or nice of a truck you get, used or new, this hobby is expensive. You WILL break things...probably fairly often.

You Can get into the hobby for the price you are talking about. I recently purchased a truck off of a member of this forum. It's an older Savage 25.

Got the truck for 100$, and a second parts truck for 50$. The truck needed 2 new diffs which I was able to salvage off of the parts truck. But if you don't know what you're doing, changing the diffs on a Savage can be kind of tricky. So I had 150$ in the truck plus gas to go get it. After I got it all running and tuned in, I realized the truck had no turning. Had to order a servo which was another 50$. When it arrives the truck will be ready to run, for a little over 200$. But to get a truck like this, you have to be willing to do work on the truck yourself, and have to accept the fact that the truck is older, and more will probably break down the road.

I've been dealing a lot with buying and fixing older cheap trucks lately, if you want some help here feel free to PM me.

Changing or serviceing the diffs on the newer Savages is much easier. 6 screws and the diff cover comes right off. You don't even have to take the wheels off if you don't want to. Same deal with the spur gear 6 screws and the top of the trans comes off with the spur gear.

Yep savage x is simple. They did a great job on making things easy to access

A stock used X goes for about 150-225 depending on age and condition. he shouldn't have an issue finding one.

ebya is great for finding a startin car for cheap. i got a tmaxx for my first nitro on ebay for $125

Just avoid craigslist. People asking full price for a used stock truck. Lol. Every once in a while you do find a deal but so many idiots on there

I disagree. I'm an avid seller and buyer on Craigslist, all you have to do is look into it. Ask a lot of questions. Make sure you're getting the lowest price. I have found the BEST deals on Craigslist. Sure there are some idiot sellers. For example I saw an ad last week, $1000 for a t-maxx. What?!
