nitro blast fumes+water heater= second degree burns

Sheesh, some people. I was buying a buddies T-maxx from hmi, but he needed to clean it before I bought it from him. He was on his back porch of his apartment cleaning it with nitro blast to make it all nice and shiney. Needless to say, the water heater shares space in an enclosed closet on the back patio as well. Somehow the fumes got set off by the water heater, and well, the rest is history. Dude got 2nd degree burns on 15% of his body, and the tmaxx got about $150 in damage

That's just so freaky. Tell you friend RCNT wishes the best for him. I hope he recovers quickly.

Some friends of mine were using construction adhesive (liquid nails) to glue the pricinpals chairs to floor, his drawers shut, and his books/ pens to his desk.

They were using flares for light. Needles to say the school was burnt to the ground and they barely got out with their lives. Fumes can do some freaky stuff..

Again I wish the best for him, he'll be in my prayers.

well, I started gettin serious doin surgery on the tmaxx around 6:00 takin it apart, went to the LHS at 7, spent $110 there, started gettin serious at 9 pm, and here at 1 am this is as far as I made it. The motor would be in, but I didnt buy a new slipper clutch, this was roasted. (poop, and here I wanted to break in the motor at 1 am!!)0 DARn theluck!

Heh, yes, I bought it anyways. The guy was hurting for $$$, (now he is really hurtin for $$$), so I chewed him down on the price, and got a homie hookup on the replacement parts (he runs the local LHS) If I woulda had more $$$ the discount woulda been greater, I was wantin new servos for my E-maxx

[edit] Ya, some sort of fuzzy logic like that. I am kinda worried that now this thing is cursed. I was kinda hesitant on tellin the new owner, cuz I've replaced all of the burned parts, but at least he knows now.....

That reminds me of a buddy that went to relight a water heater, turned on the gas and then went looking for matches. Good thing it didn't take him a half hour, still lost his facial hair and looked like he had a bad sunburn, funny, but not funny.

Not to be off subject here but this reminds me of a story I was involved in ...

I used to service and install propane tanks at rural homes. I was to move this guys 500 gallon propane tank 10 feet from his new addition. While in the process of moving it he had to leave for work. He told me just leave the tank turned off when I was done and he would turn the gas on and relight all the appliances. No problem.
Next day I hear this guy was badly burned on the head and upper chest. What happened was he got home and headed straight for the tank and turned it on. From the time he walked away from the tank to his house he must have had a brain fart. He did not try to light the pilots right away. About 5 minutes passed and he went to light the water heater and WHOOSH!!! The small backporch room filled with flames and he went running out of the house with his hair on fire. Later on I heard he tried to blame the company, but he lost the battle with his own testimony to the insurance company investigator.

Ouch!! That must of hurt. I guess this shows when dealing with propane, remember to not let the room fill with propane and then set it on fire.

I didnt buy it to make any money off of it. I bought it to help the guy sellin it. I already had a buyer lined up for it, a newbie who like myself a few months ago, didnt know what he was buyin. At least I know what the guy is gettin...

I've been burned a couple times. Freak accidents, 2nd and 3rd on 30% both times. Many weeks in therapy. I feel for the guy. I'm fairly certain he will think twice next time as do I!

Fortunatly he isn't worse off.
