HPI didn't include enough shims for the diff bevel gear so I had to get creative and use shims and an oring to get the gears to mesh good and remove as much play as possible.

Stripped the included 2mm Allen key so I'm going to pick up a nice 2mm hex wrench an some threadlock for the CVDs tomorrow.

Probably going to get some shims for when I start the suspension arms and all that because I can already tell there is going to be more play/slop then I'll put up with.

Probably going to list the stock tires on eBay tomorrow also unless someone here wants to buy them...

Picture 5 shows how the diff case was just too big for the shim(s) and bearing to fit. Sanded it down little by little until it fit, no big deal.
Picture 6 shows how much shimming is needed for the bevel gear and drive cup for it. HPI included no shims specifically for this so I had to take two of the four extras and an oring to remove all the slop and get a good/consistent mesh.

Finished the shocks and will have pictures tomorrow after class. Stopping by lhs to pick up some supplies to continue the build.

PS: just a reminder this build is going to take a month or two for me to have it up and running.

Battery fits but I should have ordered one with the wires editing the front of the pack not the too. Might sell the battery on eBay and order one that will fit better...

Painted the body. Kept it nice and simple since its my first body and it came out pretty good.

Hopefully going to order the MMP SCT combo later this week then I'll just need to wait for my servo and to buy/borrow a radio and I'll be up and running!

That is nice. I sure hope they made improvements on the first couple generations of the XS. Mine had more than its share of issues. Looks good though. I think a good simple paint is a lot of fun....I have a Shell painted by NCNitro that I am scared to run because it is so nice...lol.

What issues have you had?

The only thing I've heard other than the RTR electronics is the center drive cups need to be replaced every so often and that the steering turnbuckle pops off way too often.

pinion spun off the motor, two pins came out of the dog bones. The motor LOVE to cog really badly. Yeah the links pop off but that is not too bad. I had another tranny issue. I had a Monday built one I think...lol

Exactly why I didn't get the RTR. So often little things are overlooked during assembly that just cause a headache later.
