I just purchased a used Savage SS 4.6 and I have a few questions. First is regarding the Roto-Start. When I put it into the back of the engine and hit the switch, it seems like it is not catching. It takes some time before the roto start seems to catch and turn over the engine. Second is the Venom Fail safe. The light is blinking all the time even when the radio is turned on. Is this correct? Thirdly, I am having a hard time getting the engine to stay running while idle. I have to start the engine and give it some gas with the remote to keep it going.

Any help would be appreciated..Thanks

Sounds like your one way is slipping. Is this a new engine or a new One way? Try removing the one way bearing and spraying with some Denatured alcohol or some nitro clean. As far as the Venom fail safe, have you set it up yet?

If the engine is new you are going through break in conditions. Its normal. Please confirm if this is new or not.

well for you having to give it gas to keep it running you can adjust the idle screw

I some times have to adjust the throttle trim on the radio to open the carb a little bit to start things. Regardless of the engine. The only engine I've had that doesn't like to have the throttle opened is the Mach 26SS in my aftershock. It seems to only start when it's at the idle position.

Both Engine and Fail safe are used and where on the truck when I purchased it. The fail safe was set up already when I got the truck. The one way was also on the truck when I got it.

Thanks

since it is used, I would go with my suggestion and clean the one way. Than proceed to start it. If it does check the batteries on the truck. If they are low they may be triggering the fail safe.

Well I figured out what the issue was with the failsafe. The person who had the truck before me did not have it wired correctly. I wired it up to the servo and adjusted the brake with the radio off. It now looks like it is working as it should. I guess the next thing is to clean off the one way and see if that fixes the issue with the roto start.
