i want to get into electric racing but I'm not sure about all the rules and what kinds of batteries and motor that are good for racing? I plan on getting a Hpi rs4 sport off ebay for a good price. So I'm wondering if thats a decent car to race? I plan to race in the stock class because i would think its the easiest since they are not that fast as the modified class. I also want to know what kind of charger you guys recomend?

When it comes to batteries i have the following questions:
What mAH is recomended for stock racing?
What brand is the best?
Is it better to build a battery or just buy the assembled kind?
What does Zapped and Matched mean?

I know its a lot of questions but I want to make sure I'm not wasting money on stuff i dont need?

Thank you

Well i'd recommend the TC3. It's a very competitive car that won a lot of championships, is easy to work on and parts are easy to find.

For Mah, get some 3300 GP's...I think those are the best

Building batteries seems easy, but I think you'll need a good saudering iron to do it. If you try to build your own, get someone who's done it before to give you a hand. Batteries are expensive, you don't wanna ruin them.

are there any advantages/dis-advantages to building or buying a battery pack?

I have also been told that because I am running in the stock class with a 27t motor, a 1500mah would work better. I dont remeber why, but does anyone know if there is any truth to that?

definatly run the 3300 batts!! I just started electric on road racing and i bought the X-Ray T1Raycer kit and I'm also running stock class. The batteries i run are Fusion Team packs and they deliver plenty of punch they run about 80.00 per pack for the team ones.I'm also running a Trinity Pro Stock motor and do extremely well racing.I use a Novak Millenium Pro charger with a Bulldog power supply. You can find cheaper power supplies all over the place cause this one cost 189.00........hope some of this gives you an idea..

do you have any links to those parts?

Whoever told you to run 1500 packs is crazy.

At least with an SCR cell, I had alot of experience with 1200/1400/1700 scr cells racing, the lower Mih pack will be faster up front, earlier in a run.

It's easier to see when oval racing where lap times are really consistant because driver error becomes minimal with pan cars.

The 1500 type cell would be faster by maybe a tenth of a second per lap for about a minute into a run, then in the second minute they'd be equal to a 3300 and slowing down quickly. By the 3 minute mark they'd have dropped 2-3 tenths of lap time. By the end they'd give up close to half a second a lap on a 4-5 second per lap track.

3300's don't do that. they have a nice smooth voltage output because you're not going to use anywhere near the full charge during a race. They might provode overkill runtime but with that comes average voltage also.

What about those new lithium something ion batteries? Should i use those? How about a charger, what do you guys recommend?

take a look a Losi xxx-s. I had an easy time setting it up. for batteries get GP 3300s. I am currently running unmatched and they run great. You can now get matched packs already assembled for 50 bux. Li-Poly batteries are the new ones you heard about. I wouldn't get any because they are super expensive and tend to catch on fire on the charger. I guy on another forum had a really nice two story house and burnt the whole thing to the ground when his went:doh:
