Newbie requires advice - Which Nitro Kit?

Hi all
I am keen to relive my childhood and build myself a Nitro R/C Buggy.
Initially I intend to use for abit fun in the field where I work but if I get the bug I would probably like to join a local club and race. I have 2 local clubs available one racing electric and one Nitro. I realise that perhaps wishing to build my own kit limits my model selection but I am keen to have a kit version and not a RTR model. I have a budget of approx £300 and was looking at the Ansmann Deuce Kit. Has anyone any experience of this model or perhaps a suggestion for an alternative. I assume that this model would not be race competetive without upgrades. Also if I go down the Electric Kit route what models would suit my requirements. any help would be much appreciated

You might be better off buying a used roller(just chassis and nothing else) then trying to purchase a kit with the limited budget you're working with. I would look at towerhobbies.com, amainhobbies.com and horizonhobby.com to see what the market is like. Then I would decide which route(nitro or electric) suits your budget.

+1 On the the roller. Here is one that was on the sale/trade board a couple weeks ago. Its sold now but just an example If you look around you can find a good roller or complete buggy used for a good price.

Hi
thanks for the info.
I am actually in the UK so i'll need to try a few differant websites.
Regarding the Ansmann, I assumed that this was a named brand so it would be OK. If I was to buy the basic kit and added my own engine / electrics from another manufactuar would this be OK or is the Chassis just bad?:(

We had a fellow that used to post about his ansmann being as fragile as a 2 dollar mirror. Couldn't keep it in one piece. He eventually scrapped it and bought a losi 8ight roller. Swapped his engine and electronics over.
