Newbie question: What are servos?

Hi, sorry for this newbie question, but what are servos? I have a slight idea of what sevors are. I know they turn the car, give it gas, and brakes. Is there anything else? and are they easy to install?

a servo is a little electric motor with gears that turn an arm on the outside of the servo housing. The "Arm" is typically use to move a linkage that is either connected to a speed control (electric), throttle (gas), and to a steering linkage.

typically 4 screws and you connect/disconnect the wire harness from the receiver and they go-in/come-out real easy...simple
