I'm going to spray a body for my buggy over this weekend. I picked up a Parma masking sheet that is precut.

Colors I want to spray paint are red and white. I apply masking first and spray the main color which I want to be white. Then remove the masking and spray red.

My question is will this work with red under white? Will it show through? Should I back the white with black or silver before red?

Complete newbie when it comes to painting

My advice would be to just alter your plan to spray the red first. That will accomplish 2 things. It will guarantee that the red won't bleed through the white. And backing red with white will brighten the red a bit.

If you feel you absolutely MUST spray the white first, make sure you give it a few solid but light coats so it's opaque. I'd recommend backing with silver at that point. Then spray the red. But IMHO, I would really consider spraying the red first.

if yur gonna do it ur way then just do anywhere from 2-4 coats of white and there should be a slim line that you will get the red through the white or you can just mask the white when ur done and spray the red that way if you get a little bit of white under the stencil you can clean up against the edge of the masked off area

Thanks for the input guys...

It worked out great! I sprayed several thin coats of white. It was nearly opaque when held up to light. Then sprayed silver. Removed the masking and sprayed the orange (was going to be red) and then covered that with silver. Looks sharp with very bright white and brilliant orange.
