I am just wondering. I live in the Caribbean, and unfortunately shipping R/C fuel out to me is not the easiest thing in the world.

Now someone told me that I can use regular unleaded fuel with two stroke oil in it. Is this possible or is this correct?

Thanks in advanced.

No. In nitro RC engines, the fuel used is methynol, not gasoline.

There are, however, large scale RC cars that run on weedeater type engines which do use regular gas with an oil additive. This is probably what your friend was thinking. Check out some of the 5th scale cars from HARM, Lauterbacher, and FG.

There are some websites about tha tell you how to make your own.
I don't know exactly what is needed but castor oil is the oil used, and I belive the bulk of the fuel is alcohol. Then a percentage of nitro methane is added. I'm not sure what it is called in it's raw form.

If your having trouble getting nitro to you than maybe you should try electric.Just a thought.I too have read articles on making your own nitro fuel but but i'm will to bet you'd have problem getting the stuff needed to do it as well.I for one would not want to try a "home brew" fuel on a 200$ engine unless I was sure of what I was doing.

Getting the raw materials shipped would probably be just as expensive as getting branded fuel. Also, I think that homebrew fuel would probably void the engine waranty.

Well thanks alot guys, that helped. I am thinking about electric. I am willing to spend about $250.00 USD for everything. I have checked Tower Hobbies, but do you guys have any suggestions?

Again, Thanks

On Road - the Team Associated TC3 RTR and the Losi XXX-S RTR are some of the best entry level racers. Off road, same companies. The Team Associated B4 Stealth RTR and the Losi B2K

I am thinking about starting a R/C Club down where I live. I don't think any exist right now. SO that should be good!

Gonna Order mine soon. Just need some ideas from pro like you guys

if it costes an arm and a leg to ship there because its fuel try buyin in bulk so you dont have to order a new gallon every week or 2 get like a case and I've also seen blue thunder sold in 50gal drums but forgot where i saw that.

The problem is not the cost of getting the fuel here, the problem is fuel is a HAZZARDOUS substance.

And as I am sure you are aware of you can just put fuel on a plane or boat just like that.

We have HAZMAT fees here in the continental US, even when shipped via truck. The LHS's pay the fee, or the buyer pays if orderign direct from a distributor or manufacturer. Either way, it gets paid.

Contact Morgans Fuels, Byrons, Wilcat, or any of the others and see if a deal can't be worked out. Maybe if buying in quantity, and if other people get interested you could be a distributor there and make enough to cover the hazmat fees. Looks like an open market oportunity you have there, you could really start something.

Yeah I guess it is an open market. But i don't think anyone is into R/Cing down here. I have only seen ONE person of 40,000.00 doing it.

He had a Bad ass plane(s). Think he crashed one sometime last year into the Ocean.

That sucks (about the plane in the ocean thing). If he flys nitro, see if ya can hook up with him and maybe get fuel together (shipment wise). It might cut down on the hazmat fee getting it in one shipment.

Maybe start off with electric and see if anyone else gets interested in cars, then spring the nitro topic.

well its a large plane that he has, two stroke engine i think. Something like a weedeater engine. So he uses regular gas with two stroke oil.

Then he's good to go

When I posted I was just curios if anyone, or any other industry on the island used the components you require for car fuel. You migh t also want to check with some companys that sell things such as lighter fluid, kerosene etc. Perhaps they can move the fuel for you cheaper. They might even have the means to distribute it.

As far as electric goes, I would certtainly (afer your initial car) look into Li-po batterys and brushless motors. I hear you can get insane power and long run times.
