just got my first proper elec touring car, prefer it over nitro but just need a few pointers

1. what battery should i get the car came with a ni-cd 7.2 volt 4800 mah
does greater voltage mean more power? and can you get mobile/quick chargers?

2.how fast are elecs compared to nitro, mine has 15 turn motor and does 30 mph around, can i get it to 60 like my old nitro with a better motor?

3. can i change the gear ratio for different accel/speed

sorry to be a pain guys!! :)

sorry!! but also what about brakes ? mine does have any do you just push forward so the motor goes into reverse?

it is belt driven 4wd

Yes higher voltage means more power, which equates roughly to higher revs from the motor. You can get brushed motors to go fast but as just about everyone will tell you if you want to go really fast, then its gotta be BRUSHLESS!
I have brushless cars that will do a REAL 60mph plus, and once you can get past the heat issues, the skies the limit.
As far as chargers go yes you can get fast chargers and mobile chargers. Work out what motor you want, then batteries to suit, THEN pick a charger. Dont get the charger first cause chances are you'll get one that wont do what you want.

You can get a brushless motor from Novak or Castle Creations. Sometimes your car is brushless ready, so you won't need to change anything. I would also get a LiPo battery because these brushless motors can drain out those little NiCD batteries. The whole brushless thing (Motor and ESC set and LiPo battery) will cost you probably more that $300 +. Of course, you will also need a LiPo charger.

If you tell us what kind of car you have, we can help out with suggestions on what you can do to improve speed both on a budget and with an unlimited budget

its a kyosho, thats all i know its b asic model got it off ebay, i bought a charger today from my lhs and the guy said its future proofed cost 60 quid to!!, and i got a better motor so car does about 35 now, how do i upload pics? i wll take some and upload them for you
thanks for the help

You can go with a Castle Creations Sidewinder brushless system. I have a Novak brushless system, I have a Castle Mamba Max (the more expensive pro version for castle, the sidewinder is less expensive), and I have the sidewinder, and I like the sidewinder just as much as the other ones. You can get them brand new for about $120, and run them on a nimh battery until you get a LiPo. When you get LiPo, it will really wake that puppy up. You can get a decent LiPo battery for around $80 to $100, the bigger the battery the mor run time. I run the 6000HV 2S LiPo in two of my brushless setups, because it gives a good balance between run time and cost. I only buy my batteries from www.maxamps.com, because they have an incentive program where every time you buy stuff, they keep track of it, and once you've bought a certain amount of stuff, you get a discount on everything you buy. I think at $100, they give you a 5% discount on everything you buy after that, $200, they give you 10%, and then at like $400 they give you 15% off anything you buy. I didn't realize it when I signed up, but that stuff adds up, and the discounts REALLY help out. They also have great customer service, and they send a hand written thank you card after every purchase.

Anyway, to get the most out of your current setup, you need to ditch that NiCd for a NiMH battery. With the NiCd, it discharges at a steep angle. So when you've used half the battery, you only get half the power. NiMH has a more horizontal slope, so you get almost the same amount of full power until right before it goes dead.

yer thats cool then, so a brushless motor? what does that actually mean? my current batery is ni-mh 4400maH 7.2v so could i also increase the voltage to make it faster?
