Hi guys, I'm new to R/C'n and stuff so hopefully you guys can help me out with a few things. I bought a CAR off of ebay. I think it is pretty good.

1st off the glow plugs that I got are some O'Donnell Medium Heat Range plugs. You guys think those will be good ones to use?

2nd I bought some Trinity Buggy Blast Motor, Shock and Chassis Cleaner. Will that work for After Run Oil?

3rd What do you guys use for a temperature guage. Is there something that you can get to go on the chassis?

4th Is there anything besides getting a Fuel Filter that you guys would recomend that I get?

5th The guy I bought the car from forgot to send the Glow Plug Started, is there any other way I can get the car running? :)

Thanks in advance for the help I appreciate it..

The plugs should be fine as long as your mill doesn't have a 'turbo' button head installed. Ask the seller.

No - that is cleaner. You want actual after run oil or even marvel mystery oil will work.

The Venom temp monitor mounts to the chassis and works great. However, if you get more rides you will either have to keep switching it from ride to ride, or buy another one. I keep one of those on my on-road at all times. A good handheld would be either the Craftsmen handheld (my favorite!) or the Radio Shack handheld. Both work very well and are cost effective. I still prefer the Craftsmen on, it has more features.

A failsafe is a very good addition to an on-road car. A fuel filter is a MUST! If you dont get a failsafe, at the very least, install a throttle return spring. Prepare to spend money on tires. On-roads eat tires. Invest in a good set of bashing foams for the parking lot and you should be happy.

You HAVE TO have a glo plug starter. A Hobbico 1.5 dry cell with a glo clip is my preferred method. But you can get a rechargeable. If you do, I suggest the Hot Shot 2 PRO!

Hope this helps!

Welcome, and enjoy the hobby! Its a lot of fun!

1. Couldn't tell you.
2. Only use ARO, don't try substituting. Cleaner is definitely not ARO. Be safe, use ARO, most members here will tell you the same.
3. I think Venom makes an onboard temp gauge. I prefer using a temp gun. Some brands out there are OFNA, Duratrax, and a few others.
4. Get a failsafe and throtte return spring.
5. You need a glow starter to start these enginges. There's no way around that. They don't cost that much. Get one with a gauge.

Head down to your LHS and get the ARO, Failsafe, TRS and temp gauge.

I read the guys post on the ebay link you posted. Just because some "pro racer from yokomo racing" tunes it doesn't mean anything. It was just tuned to that day's specific needs. Ambient temp, barometric pressure and even the type of fuel will require some kind of retuning. If I were you, I would bring the carb settings back to factory and retune to your requirements.

Keep us posted and don't forget to keep asking questions.

1st off Them plugs are fine if they still are good.

2nd The Trinity Buggy Blast Can not be used as after run oil.It is for cleaning only this is what you should use for ARO: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXL391&P=7

3rd For a temp gauge you could use a hand held one where you just point it at the head and press a button http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEMG5&P=7
Or you could get on to leave on the chassis like this one. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVZ29&P=7

4th I would recomend a motor savers air filter.

5th i dont understand your question?

Thanks for the reply's you have been very helpful.

I ordered a Temperature Guage online, so I'll get that in a few days.

I also, bought aFuel Filter from the hobby shop..

I forgot to get that After Run Oil but I can't run it until I get the glow plug starter so I'll get some of that next weekend when I go to town.

Can someone post a link to a Failsafe & a Throttle Return Spring so I know what those are.. Also Çh®i§tiªñ what did you mean by Bashing Foams? The things they have for the bumpers?

Thanks again guys!! :shy:

Throttle Return Spring Here

Foam Tires Here

That guy sells foams cheap all the time. Drop him an email and let him know you need a set for bashing. I run 30mm in the rear and 26mm up front. 40-42 shore rating is the compound I run. To me, the foams last longer than the rubber, depending on how well you take care of them.

There are also MANY of other places to get foam tires online, just search around. Ellegi, Proline and Jaco are all tires I run.

Many people will make all kinds of suggestions on the tires, it becomes a matter of personal preference.

Good Failsafe here

Scroll down about half way. Venom makes a GREAT failsafe.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Çh®i§tiªñ I appreciate your ideas. I'll definatly look at getting that stuff. If I have any questions I'll let you know.

Are there any other things that a newbie might not think about.?

Thanks..

Yeah, there is.... Remember, this is all for FUN! Keep it fun and no matter what happens, enjoy.

What glo plug ignitor are you picking up?

If anything, just get a Hobbico 1.5 dry cell and a Hangar 9 long glo clip.

The guy I bought the car from had one to send me. I got it today! It's a Tamiya one, probably pretty cheep but it does the trick. I'll get a better one sometime.

But I got to drive it today!! It took a while to get it going but when I got it going it went pretty good. Rolled it a few times, messed the antenna up too. Just a few things to ask about.

Should there be a gas/liquid dripping out of the muffler? Or is it getting too much fuel, & I need to adjust it.

I should have the idle setting set so the car will not move unless I pull the trigger right?

How is the antennas hooked to the Chassis? Since I broke it I need to hook the tube back up.

Thats all I can think of right now. I dont have a temperature guage yet but I will this weekend. I have an FS-12SS engine.

Thanks again guys!!

That fluid you see coming out means it is running rich. That is normal for rich conditions. Once you get your temp gauge, you can start leaning it out but remember to always have a good trail of smoke when running. That shows lubrication is present in the engine.

This is probably a dumb question but I am still a newbie so I have a right to ask these types or questions.. Running rich means that the engine is getting too much fuel, correct?

Correct too much fuel means running rich.

Not enough fuel means running lean

The fuel in nitros carrys the lubricants. Their is no oil to change heheh. Anyhow when you run lean your engine does not get enough lube to keep the engine happy. It will overheat and wear out quickly.

Running rich is generally a good thing. The richer it runs, the more fuel, the more fuel, the more lube you get. (a good thing)

The downside to running rich is, it won't get to operating temp 200-250 deg this too will cause wear. Too much fuel will also slow performance a bit, but not to worry.

When guessing.. go for the side of caution and run rich. Your motor will thank you. A lean engine can wear very fast, a rich engine will last longer.
