RC Driving Style
LHS has just moved and is putting in a large carpet track.I was looking for some advice on what car i should get.I'm leaning towards a Team Asso. car but I'm not sure if i should get a 1/10 or 1/12 4wd or two.Thanx Marc

is it nitro or electric usually if their doing carpet it means indoor and indoor means that there shouldnt be no nitro fumes

I have been doing nitro on-road for 2 seasons now and I too am just getting into the onroad carpet scene. I was going to get into the 1/10 touring but decided to do the 1/12

I was told by a friend of mine who has been doing carpet for a while that 1/12 and 1/10 are beasts of a different nature mainly because 1/12 is rear drive and 1/10 is 4 wheel drive.

1/12 tend to be more of an agressive style since they will turn and grip. 1/10 tends to have more of a "drift" feel in the turn. I don't know if this is true since I have yet to do it competatively.

Either way, there is a driving difference between the nitro and electric. Mainly because an electric motor will have more of a linear gyroscopic action as opposed to the nitro which has different axis of rotation (gears, piston, flywheel, pulleys or shaft). One thing is for sure, carpet driving will teach you to be a better nitro driver. That's the general concensus at the LHS that sponsors me. They do both nitro and electric circuits, competatively.

If you are getting a 1/10 get either the Losi xxx-s or assoc. tc3. If you want to do 1/12, associated makes one as well and there is also the Team CRC T-fource or carpet knife 3.1 or Bloody Knife edition.

A lot of racers will always tell you it is best to start with 12 scale but there is always more 1/10 classes so either way there both great classes as fpr suggestions otu of the box rtr go with the 1/10 losi xxxs for 1/12 associated l3 or the crc carpet knife are the racers choice. check the for sale or auction page I am selling a 1/12 for a good deal & I believe there is a losi for sale allso

Ok i am not sure if I want the TC3 or the XXX-S.Can someone give me the pros and cons of the two.I hear good things about both the only bad thing I heard about the XXX is the drive belt is a pain to change do they break alot or is it something not to worry about.Thanx-Marc

If you get the Losi, make sure you get the graphite series since that one has the revised belt. The Losi is a very worthy car. Takes a beating well and also has a stiffer chassis.

With the TC3, there is torque steer that people compalin about, because of the drive shaft. I really don't know about that first hand. Another complaint is the fron dynamics of the car.

As you may already know, the settings on an on-road (caster, toe, camber) are very important to the way a car will perform. When the front of the car is in a collision or hits the boards, the settings WILL change before the Losi will. What some people do is adapt the front of a TC3 to a Losi. Chassis wise, the TC3 chassis has more flex in it. What others do is upgrade to the BMI chassis to get it more rigid. The TC4 is just an upgraded rear suspension when compared to the old one, plus a few mroe bells and whistles.

If i were you, go to your track and observe what cars they use and ask them for their opinions on the cars. IF possible, try them out but remember, driving someone's car is like letting someone kiss your wife or gf and I'm not talking about a peck on the cheek. Don't be so eager to ask if you can try the car.

Whatever car you decide to get in the beginning you will always break until you get use to the track & car. It is a hard choice but the best way is to see who & what car is mostly going to run @ that track try to go with a car that one of the racers are using that way you can get a lot of tips from them.

Thats what I was thinking. It seems most people are running the TC3,XXX-S and alot of them seem to be switching to the Xray.I am pretty sure I'm getting a TC3 Ebay had tons of them and all the lhs carry parts for it.
