I live in New York, and here we get a lot of radio disruptions. I got a fail safe and it works very well, but I was thinking of getting a new radio so my car does not have to stop every time there is a radio disruption. I have the associated gt2 rtr stock radio called the xp2. I was thinking of getting a 2.4 radio so there will be no more disruptions. Team Associated has this one http://www.teamassociated.com/xpdigital/parts/details/29221/ and the stock price is 140. Is there any 2.4 that is cheaper and better. Don't really want ot spend above 100 but if I need to I will.

Try the Spektrum DX3e. It's right at $99. It is a 2.4 GHz with a built in fail safe. Spektrum is a good brand I've used them for about 4 years with no real complaints.

2.4 GHz radios use a different system to connect to the TX to the RX. They have a unique ID that the TX and RX use. Up to 255 radios can be used at any time without interference.
