RC Driving Style
Hi I'm new to RC cars and i wanna get one. my requirements arent too stringent, but i do want a really fast car (40-50mph+) and have it look nice. i am only gonna drive it on road and dont care whether its nitro or electric (though electric would be better). gimme some tips please, or point me to the car you think is the best value, etc.

thanks a lot in advance, and dont shoot me cuz I'm new lol. i know how u old-bie bastards are =).

Well I dont think you are gonna get those speeds from Electric. I honestly dont know how fast an electric will go.
In the Electric I would suggest the Team Losi XXX-s
Or the AE TC3

If you want Nitro then the AE Ntc3 or the HPI nitro rs3 4

Please give us some more info on what you are wanting to spend that helps us give more realistic recommendations X

I have an Hpi RS4 3 and I had to do quite a bit to it to get the speeds up there, I Replaced the carb, tuned pipe, and added the two speed. The RS4 3 SS is faster out of the box and already comes with a two speed, better carb, better header and better engine. The Yokomo GT4 is supposed to go like 60 out of the box, and I bet the new 4-Tec is gonna fly with the 2.5 engine. If you really want to go nuts you can look into Serpent too.

We really need more info to give you better advice.

Are you going to race it or just parking lot bashing and streets?
Do you want shaft drive or belt drive?
Do you want a kit or RTR?
How much do you want to spend?

Answers to these can better help us point you in the right direction.

i think the traxxas nitro 4-tec would be a good choice...its fast...rtr and looks good with some good hop ups available when your ready.

Prety much parking lots and streets. a concern i had was about rocky streets..will the rc car be ok? or should i get the raised cars with big wheels?

Do you want shaft drive or belt drive?

To tell you the truth, i dont know the difference. Care to enlighten me?

Do you want a kit or RTR?

I'm assuming RTR is pre-assembled, right? If a RTR is not much more, i'd like it. If a kit is a lot cheaper, i wouldnt mind messing with one.

How much do you want to spend?

i think after all the expenses like the remote control, engine, everything, less than 350.

First off, thanks for all the replies. really...i thought i was gonna get clowned LOL =). anyway..

i heard the nitro 4tec with the 2.5 engine goes as high as 60mph...sounds awesome for its price. Whats the speed difference between the nitro 4tec and the Team losi xxx-s?

thanks again for all the replies. btw, 2 more things, how long does a tank of nitro usually last, and why do i need 12 AA batteries for some of the cars? for the remote?

Also ever think of getting a stadium truck? I got the Rustler 2.5 and I love it! It is also equiped with the 2.5 racing engine. The 12 AA's are for the Remote then for the servo's to operate. The Ruster is in your price range and is in your speed range.

that does look pretty good..it would be good too for rocky streets as i said....does it come with a radio? which do you recomend me getting?

damn...team losi xxx-s, nitro 4tec 2.5, or the rustler...hmmm...

just to let you know....
I stated off not to long ago like you, I got the Nitro TC3 RTR.
Nice car for begginer. Very few adjustments to make to it, very low maitenance, and runs through fuel at an average pace. It is fast enough... I dont know how fast out of box. Easy to make faster, add 2 speed, and easily change out header.

For newbies it is easy to take care of, it is 4wd, shaft driven, and the adjustments for ride height, and all the adjustments are easy to do. Not toomuch to worry about. except to keep clean, put in after run engine oil, and keep a good stock of nitro, and batteries and you are set! It is built tought too, I have gone straight into curbs (by accident, they are like magnets) and only broken 1 front differential cover, took 5 min to replace and I was back out there!
NTC3 RTR = 299.99

is 295 (including shipping) good for a RTR nitro 4tec? this is where i wanna get it from (if i do get it...I'm still thinking about a stadium truck): HERE

also, how long does a battery last for a nitro car and how long can i use a car for each run? any good batteries you recommend? any good chargers that charge fast?

Touring cars are fast but how fun could it be? If you down grade 10 MPH you will get a 2 wheel drive truck that you can go off-roading. With a touring carr don't think about doin anything but circles.

Stadium Truck:thumbsup: Ruster:thumbsup:

NCN,

Why don't you think the Rusty is worth it?

Ok, i am definately getting a rustler 2.5 or a nitro 4tec 2.5....most likely gonna go with the rustler. any tips on where to get the additional stuff needed to run this bad boy?

i always try to support my lhs...if they dont have what you need...you can really go to any of the mail order shops and get what you need.

I will take a shot at that simply stated the Rusty is just like a rocket we have been down this road many times. It is only made for going fast in a strait line it dosen't handle anywhere near the likes of a TL OR AE truck . IT CANNOT COMPETE with an AE OR TL TRUCK PERIOD. IT is essentially a brick with a nasty motor.

This really bothers me. Everytime a person comes in wanting a street car people tell them no don't get a car get a truck. I mean they make valid point but damn if a guy wants a car let him get a car.

If you are lucky enopugh to have a good lhs then go there is there is no lhs around or they suck then go online. I do about 80% online adn 20% lhs. Here is a list of online retailers I have used

online retailer list

also to answer a questions from above

belts are normally superior for racing and driveshafts for bashing. Unclean surfaces can reak havock on your belts ...ie bashin in a parking lot.

12 batts is 8 for your radio and 4 for reciver pack

also your money alotment is RTR only..

last xxx-s is an electric and the nitro 4tec is not. X

Thanks X :D

If you go with a car and you are planning on just streets and parking lots go with the HPI RS4 3 RTR or TC3 RTR which are both shaft drive. One tiny little rock belts are gone!

If you really want to go stadium truck, seriously look into the the XXXNT or RC10 GT RTRs

You also want to take into consideration the areas near you you will be able to run. If you are in a rural area with no nice big smooth parking lots and alot of dirt then a truck would suit you better, or if you are in a city where there is no real place to offroad then a car would make a better choice.

All four of these should fit into your price range, or at least be close.

i see. i thought the rustler was good....I'm kinda infatuated with speed, and it seemed like that was the fastest for its price.

why would i buy a xxxnt over a rustler?

Unless you plan on only drag racing the Rustler, they handle like crap and it comes with that traxxas radio.

The xxxnt will drive and handle much better than the Rustler, and it comes with a JR XR2 radio system, much nicer than the traxxas radio.

If you are infatuated with speed get a bolink nitro dragster :D
