Well my computer took a major crap last weekend so it's time to replace. I've had two HP's and I'm steering far clear of them this time. I'm not that knowledgable about this sort of stuff so it's time to go shopping. I've always beard Dells are pretty good machines so I think I'm gonna be looking at those. At any rate, my next post should be from a new computer so wish me luck!

Get a panasonic toughbook, so when you spit out drinks on your keyboard and a screen, or get pissed and throw it out the window it wont hurt it. HAHA. I got a mark on mine where i clocked some guys knees on the side of the road with it while trying to fingerprint him.

Seriously though. i love my personal dell.

Your not alone Lessen, my desktop is on the way out also. I have been shopping on line but I'm about to hit a few stores to see what they have to offer...Good luck in your search!

Well the one complaint I have about Dell is their tech support.. I'm speaking of a few years back though. I had problems with the comp. on a regular basis, and I always got some guy named Bishnu or Achmed on the line and never once did I hang up on them with the problem resolved. On top of that, I can't understand accents over the phone. It may be different now, but I stay clear of them now.

Woohoo! I'm back online! Hooray!

Unfortunately, I found out that not only was my old motherboard shot, my old hardrive was not working either. I as supposed to have the info extracted to an external but they can't do it there. They'd have to send it out yadda yadda. Not worth the money considering I had nearly everything backed up anyways.

So we bought a Dell XPS8000.
Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel Core i5
6GB RAM
1TB Hard Drive
21.5" widescreen 1080p monitor

Just trying to get things somewhat setup now.

Nice monitor dude but me and my dad have had very bad luck with dell and any other pc.. I now own an iMac 17" desktop all in one unit. It has 2 cords to plug in and in the past 3 years we have had it, I haven't had one problem. But sometimes other people have better luck with dells, and hp. But as for my dad, never again will he buy one.

sounds like a nice pc. You will love windows 7. Its the greatest IMO.

PC's have got to be the most unreliable things a person can purchase. One person stands by a brand and another detests it. I've had two HP's and although my last one was old and quite honestly expected to kick the bucket, I've had a number of little issues with it that annoyed me. So I figured it was time to try something a bit different. This processor is like one step down from Intels top of the line so I imagine it should suit my needs just fine. I can't wait to get VRC setup and see how much better it runs with all the graphics turned on. I've already watched a couple video's on Nascar.com and they play much much better.

Dell makes good desktops, and HP makes really good laptops. Dell has a lot of problems in their more budget oriented models though. You got an XPS so you should be golden. Those things kick ass. Nice specs on it too :wtf:

I'm running a Toshiba laptop with 4 gigs of ram, Core 2 duo and 500gb HD and it's awesome.

Also, FLM_Savage, I didn't know I could do that. I just tried it and my jaw dropped. lol

Well, I can't say it went off without a glitch cuz I had to fiddle with a few things. I had to update VRC like twice to get it to work. At first I thought it wasn't going to be compatible because I kept getting something about an incompatible 16 bit program. But I got that all worked out. Then after I finally got AutoCAD installed it would not run due to an incompatibility issue. After a quick look on the AutoDesk forum I found a solution and it's all gravy now. VRC does look A LOT better but that's just due to this brilliant monitor. I am able to turn the graphics to the third position and turn on all of the other options without any adverse affects. I'm pretty sure I was only at the second position with my previous pc.

yeah, window + tab is pretty cool.

Not too big on that stupid dock thing though. I'll give it a week and if it's doesn't grow on me it's going bye bye.

if you run into any compatibility issues with 7, you can always install xp mode. It runs rather seamlessly with 7.

Cool thanks man. So far I've been able to find the proper adjustments within my programs to get them to run.

I LOVE this side-by-side thing.

check out the shake feature.. open up 4 or five windows (not maximized). then with your mouse grab the title bar on one and shake it back and forth about 5 times. watch what happens.

OK, so I've finally gotten around to re-ripping my CD collection to this computer. This thing is silly faster than anything else I've had yet. It's seriously ripping albums in 2 minutes tops. I dunno if that's actually fast or not by todays standards, but it sure seems like it to me. Also, I'm ripping it in Windows Media Audio (Lossless) format which is supposed to be between 470 and 940 Kbps. It's the highest quality option I have with Zune. This is cool :)

Computers are like r/c's, they need regular maintenance or they ALL turn into POS.
Nice setup Lessen!
