New OS .18TM running hot- possible air leak

I am far from sure if this but I thought the "m" part was somehow part of a marine application. I don't think that it matters much but I am not a boat guy either, so what do I know? Lol!

The M stands for Maxx, in that it will take an easy-start from Traxxas. I would say it is somewhat more powerful, but tuning and reliability is vastly better. All in all its a better engine in quality and reliability, also moderately faster.

is the OS .18TM (stronger/more HP) than the Traxxas 3.3?
Similar peak power, but the 18TM is less peaky with the torque. You get more torque throughout the RPM range with the TM. With the 3.3, it's all on the top end and like a light switch. Also, the TM will run all day without being fussy, at least mine did.

I probably have 7+ gallons through my old TM and it still ran like a top earlier this year... or late last year, can't remember when I ran it. I tried it out before putting in a 21TM just so I could compare all 3 engines.

I looked at OS's line up ,didn't see the 18 TM ,but seen the 18 TZ an the cvr,the rpm ranges are about the same.
I would think Os's engines are more reliable an probably a better warranty!

It's an older engine. The 21TM replaced it a few years ago... sadly. The power the 21TM puts out doesn't easily justify the cost of the thing. Then again, I paid $200+ for my 18TM when I bought it back in 2006.

The 18TZ out performed the TM a bit. A little higher RPM and peak HP.

With the small block nitro, the horsepower and rpms seem to be the most important issues. That is, provided you have a QUALITY engine. The OS engines have obviously been around forever and their parts avail, tunability (hold a tune well) etc... I just don't think traxxas is in the same class. Traxxas has worked well for me and they are cheap enough etc. but if I was building a kit without an engine, I wouldn't even consider a traxxas over an OS. That's just me tho. :D
