RC Driving Style
Hello everyone I'm new to the forums and to the RC world of fun, I just pick my car up yesterday and have this small problem. Is their any special kind of 'AA' battery I should use for the receiver and box, reason been my steering servo locks up and the tires will get stuck in a 45 degree position (looking head on tires would be stuck to the left). Now every time it has done this I put in fresh batteries sometimes it will come out and most of the time not, so I'm thinking that it's not the batteries?? I have tried this both in the city and out in the country if that will help at all, interference wise. I have checked all the wires ( no frays ) and the connections, all looks good. It just kind of sucks but what the heck all things good comes in time!!

I managed to get the truck broke-in between these minot set backs!? So other than that its a blast!!

It shouldn't matter what type of 'AA' you use, although alkaline batteries rate a little higher (1.5 volts) as compared to the Nicads (1.2). The problem sounds like you have some binding in your steering linkage. Try this. Disconnect your steering linkage from the steering servo (so that when you operate the servo, only it will move). Next turn everything on making sure that your trim adjustment on your controller is set mid-way. With everything on, this should be dead center on your steering setup, (trim is neither left or right but centered. Re-connect your steering linkage paying close attention to the position of your wheels. As your servo is powered on and centered along with your trim being centered, you will want to center the tires as well. That should do it. Sometimes servos get a little out of true and usually you can compensat with the trim adjust. But the above setup should get everything back to centered/true straight.
 
Also you might want to check the whole steering set up for those little nubs that get left on the parts when you take them off the parts tree this same thing happened to me with my hpi micro rs4 so I took it down to my lhs and they trimmed the edges of all the steering components they said that there was a small nub on something from the parts tree and it was causing it not to turn right. hope this helps

edit: Burrs are what are the little nubs on the parts from the part tree.

If all else fails contact traxxas you might have a bad steering servo. They will help you out.:thumbsup:
 
My first guess would be that the servo horn is not on centered. If so, it is possible that when you turn to the left extreme the linkage travels over the returnable limit and gets stuck. It's kinda like a truck when the trailer jackknifes. I've had this happen already. Something to look at anyway.
 
Thanks all I wasn't expecting a response so quick. Now this only happens sometimes, but when it does the steering trim on the rc is useless. Its almost like their is outside interferrence, but way out in the country with nothing around??? Hmmm, I did contact traxxas thinking on the line of a faulty servo so we'll see in a few, but for now I will try out what you told me and get back to you.

I don't know if Traxxas built the same steering components into the Rustler that the Maxx has, but the piece of linkage that connects the servo horn to the steering linkage on the T-Maxx is NOT a turnbuckle. If you wanted to adjust it for centering purposes you would have to remove it, then run in or back out the rod ends, then reinstall it. Unlike turnbuckles it has right-hand threads on both ends.

And another thing I didn't do when I replaced a-arms: When I had it apart I didn't mark the steering turnbuckles as to which end connected to the linkage and which end connected to the steering knuckle. If you get one flipped around then you're turning the turnbuckles in different directions when you adjust your toe-in.
