new nitro rc?

I am wanting to get into the rc line of hobbies. I would like so input on good ones for beginers that won't break the bank! Here is my criteria:
-Nitro
-1/8 scale
-Monster truck
-under $400
-Might consider used
Any ideas and input would be good. I appreciate it. Thanks in advance, i'm kinda lost! :\

Welcome to RCNT!

First off,they will all break just some more than others. Second if you want new,your budget is little low. Remember you will need fuel,glow plugs,batteries and fill bottle to go with it. I'd recommend spending just a little more and start with the HPI Savage X 4.6.

I would go with a savage also. 400 is i little low.
If you only have 400 then thats all you have. I would wait and save more to get everything you need.i would get a temp gun also

yeah it is always best to make sure you are able to get everything you need so you arent sitting there with a rig and no way to use it.. that would suck alot!!!

Yeah, 400 will maybe only get you the truck, and not the rest of the gear! And as mtaylor stated, you really dont want to be staring at this truck that you worked really hard to buy but can't take outside for another month because you have to wait for some more money to buy the fuel bottle, glow plug etc. I think that the Traxxas Revo would be a good starter or the Savage as mentioned above.

Here is the cheapest Savage from Tower Hobbies, as you can see, it is almost right at the top of your budget. Leaving you with only $14 to spend on other stuff.

I definately agree with the previous posts. Here is another heads up... IF you do find a kit ready to go with a 400.00 dollar budget then you'll want to steer away from it. You'll repair it more than you'll drive it. There are several companies out there who offer complete packages and they make most of their revenue on parts replacements and upgrades. There is a version of the Losi Aftershock and it comes with fuel and everything. I think you can find it on Amainhobbies.com.

There's way to knock another $50 off that Tower price. Join the super saver's club for $9.99 and wait a few days and you'll receive some savings codes. One of the codes is usually $60 off a $300 or more purchase. That's assuming it's still the same,I haven't been in the club for over a year now.

Edit: I just glanced again at the link,that's an SS kit so you'll need a radio/receiver and servos that aren't included.

Yeah, but on limited budget, might be a good choice regardless of scale. Gotta start somewhere! Other options would be to go with 2WD, ie. firestorm. Just a suggestion.

HAHA you are right about that i am just worried about depreciation and resale??? i know i will lose money but i know on something like a savage it holds value quite good. What about demand? So many questions running through my head... aHHH lol i just dont want to get a hunk of metal lying around thats no good to me! more suggestions?

No matter what you buy, it wont hold its value very well! Upgraded or not. Just buy something that will suit you now and dont worry too much about future resale....there isnt much.

You can buy a really good quality truck like a savage or tmaxx, and you wont get what you paid for it. But dont go and get something that isnt well known, for replacement parts and upgrades, you want a well known brand. What does your LHS carry most of for parts?

they have almost anything for hpi and traxxas... Good point! can you name any other trucks for a GOOD price? forget my $400 budget i can probably find a little more

Its 4WD so thats a good option. A guy at work has that one, and he says that it is an awesome little truck. can't go wrong with an HPI truck, they are really good quality.

I know that you are looking for monster truck, but the firestorm is an awesome little truck for a 2WD.

If it was me buying brand new, I would probably go for the Nitro Revo or the Savage 5.9. I have a T maxx, and that is also a great truck to have, but you might be replacing parts more often as a new driver and they are not quite as strong as the savage in stock form, you have to upgrade the maxx to be as strong as the savage.

Be prepared to spend more money after you buy your truck too, for all of the accessories needed.

I have the 2.5 classic with a 3.3 dropped in it. Go with a newer version truck for parts availability. I have a harder time finding parts for it sometimes. Go with the 3.3 for added strength...better quality plastics and parts and less chance of breakage. Also, better quality driveshafts. Alot of parts were also used in the revo.
