Personnaly...i got a O.S .30vg in both of my savage and it good for me, but they are $$$. There is more less expensive ones that as alot of power too...wich I'm gonna let the others give you there own opinion on ur

Faster is a relative term... What gearing are you running now for CB/spur? To go with tall gearing, you need a more grunty engine.
The LRP28 is a pretty solid engine. If I had a second truck that used a BB other than my aftershock, I'd have another LRP to put in it. It's been a really good engine for me. With the way it throws my heavily modified aftershock around, it should kick a savage in the teeth pretty good as well.

A lower gearing will give you wheelies while the opposite is true for the high speed. As for a new motor check out the Axial .28 or .32, they're pretty good bang for the buck.

I thank everyone for all the input and really would like to keep the motor I have, but with all the hop-ups i've done it just doesn't seem as fast as it should. The gearing I have is 16/49 any advise? Like I said before 3 speed,pipe,cool head,new diffs,etc.
You may have to modify the TVP but I ran 18/52 and it was just too fast for a Savage ith a 3 speed.
Wheelies can easily attained with gearing or if you want to be replacing your slipper clutch/Spur gear or Tranny gears after some time.... tighten your Slipper clutch all the way down. Doing that on my modified Nitro Star 25 was just uncontrollable. I would wheelie every dang time. That was on concrete. On grass it would just live on its lid.
My set up..
RC Boyz triple rate springs with 30 wt oil in the front and 25 wt in the back.
18/52 gearing
Shift point from 1st to 2nd within 10 feet
Ran 30% Oddonnel
This set up seemed over powering STILL.
Bigger engine doesn't mean better.
Wheelies can easily attained with gearing or if you want to be replacing your slipper clutch/Spur gear or Tranny gears after some time.... tighten your Slipper clutch all the way down. I'll give a vote for the LRP 28 Spec 3.I loved the one I had.Lots of power and easy to tune.

I have an axial .28 spec 1 that is just about done with break in and I've been real happy with it so far. Good power and great bang for the buck. Its been pretty well behaved as far as tuning and temps. I don't know about the dynamite .28 but my lst2 came with the dynamite 427 and that thing was killer and you can usually find them cheap on ebay.
I have an axial 28 s1 as well, but I would have been better off setting it on fire right after I bought it... I guess they are hit or miss as to how good they are.

I know Olds hates the Axials but I have had good luck with them. I have an LRP .28 right now; I have a three speed as well with 19/47 gearing and heavy tires and rims I can still pull the wheels up when ever I want. It will even twist rear/center drive-shafts in half......yeah bummer... I did two last week. Waiting on some new ones to come in. For the money "IMO" the LRP is the best out there.

i hear good and bad about axial .28's go with the RR instead of the 1s
but if you want to go with a mach .28 go with the mach .28 platinum, because that engine, is in every detail the exact same as the LRP Z.28 Spec 3, personally, stay with the .25, or just get a mach 427, the savages are not really meant for powerful engines unless you are ready to go buy a whole new high end drive-line out of steel or titanium
but if you are looking for power go with a mach .28 platinum or the lrp z.28 spec 3, they both last hella long more than 4 gallons, i have heard of a few lasting for 9 gallons, they also can heat up to about 270 or 280 with is more than most engines, which means longer run time and longer engine life
i say they are a good deal!
+ both have like 3.81 or 3.91 HP
i have an lrp z.28 spec 3 in my aftershock and i love it to death
